@kota1       I'm all for room tuning if you are not lucky enough to have a dedicated room.  But why do you have a target curve that deviates almost 20dB from flat?  Are you a bass lover?  Just interested.
Speakers and amplifiers show audiophiles are confused.
@pennfootball71    So sorry.  I meant of course to say modern Krells try to defeat time by moving from regular Class B to Class A, not as I said.

I can't get no relief.   @pennfootball71      Today's Krells are NOT pure Class A.  As soon as the signal gets challenging, they move to Class B.  But not until after the challenge is over.  That's why they don't run hot.  Pure Class A has to ru...
Describe the "new HiFi sound"?
Save for the fact there is little pure analogue being sold today (i.e. very few LPs are recorded AAA any more) there is no generic 'new hi-fi sound. There has always been a wide range of 'sounds' and will continue to be. And if it is suggested a...
Used vs. new
I have bought ex-dem a few times with success and a good discount. Best was Krell KRS200s upgraded by Krell to 400 watts per side.  They were only one-third of retail around 1991.  They were about 4 years old then.  I had them re-furbed incl repl...
How to test speaker cables by ChatGPT
@vonhelmholtz     The aliens have reported plenty of unintelligent life on Earth.   @raysmtb1      Doesn't the manufacturer of your pre-amp published frequency response figures?   Do you think they're lying? The factory figures for my Audio Res...
Are you interested in the new generation of "old school" design loudspeakers?
Accoustat is a 70s-80s design that still cuts it.  I always wanted the big ones but didn't have the money.  Later I went Martin Logan and haven't regretted it.
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
@jpan  Noting your coinage 'table', Simon Yorke likes to refer to a 'record player'.  He has described it as a machine for playing records.

@oldaudiophile     Thanks for the reply. Well I'm not far behind you.  From 1962 I was using my father's mono rig, a Goldring turntable, big old pre-war valve amp and Goodmans speakers, starting with the Beatles of course. In 1965 I got my own s...
Rhodium plated audio grade wall socket
Yep.
Lend me your ears...
@ott     "and the walls are being soundproofed. The room is 18' X 15' and will be fully carpeted. ....There are French doors that will be covered with moire curtains." You are lucky to have what sounds like a dedicated room.  I have one too.  Be ...
Power cords known to produce good bass
@wolf_garcia     You got it!    I count four others who have side-lined this unscientific nonsense. Make me no.6. First find a snake.  Oil it generously from head to tail.  Plug tail into wall outlet.  Clamp head to inlet pins.   Stand back.  Ge...
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
@oldaudiophile  Sorry, but you're showing your age.  Most turntables these days don't have a dustcover, particularly at the high end.  I exited my last table with a dust cover, a Linn, in the mid-80s.  For a while I used to put a sheet of newspap...
un-becoming an audiophile
Two thoughts. Concentrate on becoming a musicphile. Resolve you will NEVER change or upgrade any system component.  The emphasis on looking for faults in the system will fade.
Selling on Audiogon
@noromance The correct quote is 'Youth is wasted on the young'. Much more witty. Alternatively attributed to Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Shaw, both 19th century Irish wits and writers.  For my money it rings truer of Oscar Wilde's style.
