Feel like I'm outta my mind.... Some suggestions above involve big dough. So listen widely and think long and carefully. So many here have said they bought an item and then changed it a short time afterwards. As you're getting on in years (like me), I suggest viewing these ch...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? I have little truck with political correctness. The world has gone mad, led by the USA. And now we have wank (woke), again originating in the USA. The principle of free speech is far more important. Wan**rs would have America and Europe become...
Sat front row at the symphony... @czarivey Well, most concerts I've been to the lady violists wear long flowing dresses or skirts. While they like to keep their bowing arm free to move and so often have tops cut to the shoulders.
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @mijostyn Your comment about my vision is not required. More sensitive people would regard it as insulting. I don't need anti-skating any more but there sure has been a load of rubbish written here. The only known facts are: you need it, t...
Is it possible for a high end manufacturer to overprice their goods? No. It's completely impossible. Never happens.
Could these be your next cable loom??...and price be damned. Of course this is totally mad. But Gabi knows there are is a small handfull of mad buyers out there that will pay $300,000 for $5,000 (max) of wire. @jhnnrrs How does offering a $300,000 cable add credibility to the brand? For most of us i...
Why a dearth of some brands on the used market? After spending $5,000 on a cable, the owner is not going to chop it in for $1500.
If it sounds 'great', everything is ok? @ashoka Enjoy listening to your steaks.
If it sounds 'great', everything is ok? @elliottbnewcombjr Sorry, the obsession with low tracking weight ended decades ago. Record wear is much exaggerated. With MCs tracking at around 2.5g I have never heard it on any of my records. We all accept stylus wear is inevitable and no...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @dover Please explain why you think the skating force does not change linearly as the record is played. Surely it is just a question of geometry? I never said that. Apologies @dover you didn't @lewm "the skating force is not linear ...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @mijostyn Simon will thank you for that endorsement. He is aware of the VTA issue. He provides very fine height adjustment if necessary on the fly with a large diameter knurled wheel operating on the arm pillar by a high geared tensioned worm ...
Tonearms without anti-skate, damage to records? @mijostyn @dover Re parallel trackers, look at the Simon Yorke Aeroarm (no longer available). Effective mass of the arm is around 25% of a typical 9 inch pivoted arm because it is only 2.5 inches long. Why do most other designers of parallel...
Sat front row at the symphony... Yes, very front row is good but not best unless you like wide soundstages or looking up violinists' armpits. I would say 7 to 10 rows back. And although OP specifies an orchestral concert, in a piano concerto it is good to side halfway to the le...
What record cleaner is the most bang for the buck?? Sponge and distilled water with a few drops of ethyl alcohol or similar. Get water free from your dehumidifier. Cost ? 20c. That's the most bang for your 20 cents.
Admitting my error… @kota1 +1 If you are not young any more, it's a very good point that you will not have time to buy the LPs you want. It has taken me 61 years. So far. And yes, you will have to pay a lot more than I paid. I have around 3000 discs. |
