New Rega Planar 3 MM Cart recommendations
If you’re a novice to vinyl, I would go with the Rega cartridge. Here’s why - you don’t have to worry about arm height or cartridge alignment, assuming you go with the Rega 3-point mount. The Rega cartridge will sound just fine and you can concent...
Rega Apheta 2....Asking Price ?
That is not a very popular cartridge, so I would just pass on it.  Or keep it as a spare.
Chinese products
I think you are lumping all Chinese-made products together in one basket. Like many countries, China produces some low-priced products, but they are also capable of producing excellent high-end stuff, which necessarily dictates a higher price. Of ...
Basis Audio Fans
Yes, I sent my motor, bearing and platter in for a checkup and they were excellent to deal with. Fast and responsive. Great products and a great company for service.
Ess Company
I owned the Rock Monitors way back when.  They were cool speakers.
Lyngdorf Audio Integrated Amp?
I think tone controls will make a comeback.  Audiophiles are getting fed up with being slaves to poor recordings, room acoustics and whatever.
Need Help choosing Totem Speaker
What is the rest of your system, what kind of music do you most prefer listening to (yes we all like "all kinds") and how loud do you want to play it?
Corelli - really????
Power conditioners can have a profound effect on a system.  Both positive and negative, so don't dismiss it out of hand.  Unfortunately, it's impossible to know without trying.  I hate to generalize, but I think they may be most effective for list...
Typical New Speaker Dealer Discount A Buyer May Expect
IMO, it depends on the dealer.  Dealers in midtown Manhattan are carrying a lot higher overhead than ones in smaller Midwest cities.  Sometimes a dealer will be closing out a line of speakers you happen to want and you may pick up a sizable discou...
headphones for tube system
Just unplug your CD player from the system, if it's not too complicated, and connect a headphone amp when you want to use it.  If your CD77 is out in the open it should be easy.  If the wires are buried, I give up.  As to suggestions for headphone...
First Tube Amp
You made a good choice buying a less-expensive amp to start.  Let your ears grow into it and then you'll be in a better position to decide on whether you want to stay with tubes or not.  Tubes are not a panacea for the audiophile.  Like with vinyl...
Cardas vs. Cardas
To the average person, $50 would be "quite a lot actually" for a 1m piece of wire.  We audiophools have gotten over the sticker shock, so 2k seems quite normal if you don't think too much.  I'm not even talking about the 5-15k 1m ICs floating arou...
What Do You Think Of This?
That's why I sell in person or not at all.  It's just not worth it.
Basis Audio 1400 Turntable
Really depends on condition and features.  I would carefully take it apart, carefully clean the plexiglas with windex  or Novus 1 and a microfiber cloth and post some pictures.  I think Basis makes great tables, but the resale value seems to be qu...
How good is the Obsidian plinth of Technics SP10 ?
Perhaps it has something to do with level one plays back music and the feedback generated? I recall Peter Aczel initially not caring for the sound of the SP10 until he mounted it in the Cotter base, realizing then that the sound pressure generated...
