Just an observation here, but????????
@cakyol - although the Linn has springs, it has almost zero isolation from footfalls.  Believe me.  Unless you're using concrete floors or some other unshakable surface, wall shelf mounting is a must.  I thought they were isolated too, until I got...
Just an observation here, but????????
Yeah, but there are a lot of turntables that are low mass and without suspensions.  Some companies, like Rega, believe this is the way to go for sonic reasons and others just do it because it costs less and involves less setup problems.  Every cam...
Any comments on my Ayre AX-7e vs Ayre EX-8 vs Simaudio Moon 340i Integrated Amplifiers
As you have a dealer, I would bring in your old amp and see if you can hear any improvement that is worth upgrading to.  I would not worry about the fact that your amp is old.  It's all about how it sounds.
Weakest link - a different question?
It is an excellent question and sometimes difficult to diagnose.  After many years in this hobby, I believe strongly that the speaker/room interface is the most overlooked item in creating a system.  IMO, in a normal domestic environment where spe...
I'm still mystified...
A seller needs to figure paypal fees into the final selling price, which, IMO, should include the fee at no additional charge.  If a buyer wants to negotiate lower, the issue of the fee comes into play.  As Dweller1 pointed out, if you don't like ...
Weak link?
I'm sorry I didn't notice your last post about auditioning at a dealer, which is smart, IMO.  Unfortunately for your wallet, maybe you need to reevaluate your budget.  Sometimes the sticker shock of an item puts us off, but once you get used to th...
Weak link?
Nobody can tell you what you are going to like better than what you have because there are too many variables.  You will get many well-meaning suggestions here, and that's good.  But, IMO, the only way to really figure this out is to make an appoi...
LARGE speaker shipping options???
I would try to sell local for a half-decent price and not have the headaches.  You go through all the trouble of shipping and they get damaged, or the buyer "claims" they are damaged and then you have to deal with insurance, refunds...   Not worth...
All Quiet on the Oppo front?
Or is this the best marketing ploy ever devised?I wanted a 105, but never got around to it until I heard the 205 was discontinued.  I think I got the last one off Amazon.
Factory checkup just before selling...
I think an ethical seller is obligated to tell the buyer whether a unit has ever been repaired.  But it's also up to the buyer to ask.
Linn Audio
That's the polarizing part.  Owners of upgraded LP12s maintain that their tables compete with the best, while many knowledgeable turntable people disagree, usually very strongly.  Better off discussing religion or politics than the LP12.  One amaz...
Linn Audio
I think Linn people gravitate towards the Linn forum.  Same with Naim.  Very little discussion here about either.  There are a lot of LP12 lovers here, but they tend to get shot down so there's no sense posting.  The LP12 is a very polarizing subj...
How good is your hearing ? And how do you know ?
I think the OP's question is a bit ambiguous.  One's hearing may be physically impaired due to age, injury or whatever.  But I think the OP means ability to differentiate between a merely good system and a very good system, i.e, one that is capabl...
Turntable isolation
I’m not sure that any table can withstand very springy floors. My Linn was horrible in this regard, but totally cured by a wall shelf. My current Basis is better than the Linn, but one would have to tread very, very lightly. Again - wall shelf mou...
mapleshade cable recomendations
I tried their regular speaker cables a long time ago and found they had a high degree of clarity.  I think they would work well in a system that is perhaps a bit boomy or lacking in midrange/vocal clarity.
