Inexpensive Headphone DAC
I have an Audioengine and it's not bad at all.  Not sure where it's made.
Closed back headphones and Focal
Being used to the Grado 1000's, I never liked any closed-backed phones until I tried the Oppo.  I have the PM-3s and they are really nice IMO.  They're not made anymore, but I do see them, as well as PM-2's and PM-1's up for sale.  Some are asking...
Music Hall MMF 7.3 Question
No, I don't have the table anymore and I saw no reason to go past the Herbies.  Mats definitely change the sound, so you really need to experiment.
Music Hall MMF 7.3 Question
I found that the Herbies mat was a very positive upgrade for my Music Hall 5.1.  I have never been much a believer in the difference a mat could make until I tried the Herbies.  OTOH, it sounded horrible on my Linn, so trying for yourself is the o...
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC with Ortofon 2M Red Cartridge: BASS sounds 'muddy' The Reason?
Is your cartridge even broken in yet?  it does take a little time.  Sit back, relax and play some records.
Looking to get the best out of Redbook Cd listening with Dac a d Transport under 5K?
I didn't read every word, but if you have a full-blown Modwright Oppo 105, that's going to be pretty expensive to beat, IMO.  A friend of mine dumped his Linn Klimax for the MW 105.  The older ones, I can't say.
Which cantilever to choose for re-tip
I would leave it up to Peter.  Both times I sent him carts he felt the best way to go was to just replace the stylus on the original cantilever.  And yes, he used what appears to be a blob of glue to attach it, but the carts sounded absolutely gre...
Doge 8 Clarity: 12AT7 replacement for phono stage
I have had good results with Black Sable tubes from Tube Depot.  They are hand-selected for low noise and microphonics.  Andy at Vintage Tube Services is also great.
Breakdown of Turntable Performance
Some would say pretty much the exact opposite.  Platter/plinth most important, arm second, cartridge last.  Depends on who you ask I guess. But when you think about it - the plinth and platter need to be designed to be immune to feedback and turn ...
Moving up from an Oppo 205
Before you do anything, I would recommend trying some Vibrapods under the 205's feet.  Frankly, I was never much for footers or cones, but I had some Vibrapods lying around I just thought I would try it.  IMO, the sound became much more harmonical...
Props to Black Cat Cables
+1 for Inakustik.
Props to Black Cat Cables
It may well be the greatest cable construction of anyone, but my point was that Chris actually shows you exactly what you are buying.  That is pretty rare.
Another Analog v. Digital Thread? Not Really
@audiozenology - Your comment about old ears or fan-boy vinyl certainly may be true in many cases, but in this particular scenario, it was the impression of a young person who had never heard a decent vinyl setup that made me question whether I wa...
Turntable isolation platforms
Are you sure it's acoustic feedback, i.e., sonic degradation from the volume of the music?  Or do you mean isolation from footfalls and the like?  If it's the latter, a wall shelf makes a huge difference IMO.
Another Analog v. Digital Thread? Not Really
Live music is great, but I found very few venues with great sound.  Carnegie Hall is surreal, but Lincoln Center should be ashamed of the sound in there.  I haven't been to the Vanguard in 100 years.  If you're old enough, you may remember Hoppers...
