Choice between 2 speaker cable types.
What are you using now?  Sometimes you can luck out with 10 gauge Belden from Bluejeans.  With one set of speakers, I replaced the more expensive cable with Belden and actually preferred it.  With another set of speakers I had to leave the room, i...
Is a Linn Sondek LP12/Lingo/Ekos with a Cirkus update, the last turntable I’ll ever buy?
I don’t know why people keep saying that the Linn easily goes out of adjustment. Once properly set up, the setup should last for years. However, the Linn is VERY sensitive to footfalls and if you have springy floors, it will skip if you look at it...
Everything Matters With Digital
IMO, the only thing that matters in digital is what you can hear.
Flexible/Compliant Speaker Cables
Audience AU24 cables are light, flexible and very good.  They often come up for sale on the used market.  I only have experience with the original models, but there have been many upgrades/changes since then.  IMO, they are a very safe bet if you ...
XLR cable with warmth without losing resolution
IMO, the Purist Poseidon has the exact traits you are describing at at your price point.  I will tell you that the cables are heavy and unless you're working at floor level, they will need to be supported with some sort of cable ties.
Ultrasonic: should I do it?
I remember when the big thing was steam.  Nobody does this anymore?I never did because it seemed like too much effort and mess, but I would bet a good steam followed by an ultrasonic would really get to the bottom of those grooves.  Maybe.
Pioneer Direct Drives - Now and then?
When I began my journey back into vinyl after a long hiatus, I bought a Music Hall 5.1, which is a belt drive and came pretty well set up and with a good Goldring MM cartridge mounted. I thought it represented a good taste of what analog was about...
Looking to upgrade from a Marantz tt15 to something vpi?
I'm getting a sense that you are looking for a new toy, but if your only issue is the color, I looked around a bit and saw that frosted acrylic can be painted.  Maybe you could just have the plinth painted black?  https://www.acmeplastics.com/con...
Is High End Cable Really Worth It and What Brand
As you are working with a dealer, he should be very glad to let you try the wire he claims is better for your system and you can judge for yourself.  That is the only way to tell.  And I do agree that wire is very system-dependent.  With one set o...
Looking for closed back headphone advice
If you can pick up a pair of the Oppo PM-3s at a good price, they are very, very good and you can drive them with an I-phone with good results.  They were $399 new and are no longer made, so some people are asking high prices, but check around.  A...
Laid back DAC under $800?
I think above you said you had an equalizer?  If you want a simple way to use it, try boosting each individual frequency until the objectionable tone pops out at you. You'll know it when you hear it.  Then leave the rest flat and cut back a drop o...
Cashing In My OPPO Chips
I am not very big on tweaks, but before you sell the Oppo, try placing a Vibrapod under each foot.  I think I used a Vibrapod 3.  It made a very large improvement in the overall tonality of the Oppo.  Much fuller and more harmonically complete.  I...
Harbeth Super HL5 plus Break-in
In my experience, the Skylan stands made the SHL5s sound dull. I tried putting some hard interfaces on the stands, casino chips as I recall, which improved the sound, but I eventually went to an Epos open-frame metal stand, which was far better. S...
How too clean top/sides of black metal on McIntosh units
Residual Oil Remover.  ROR for short.  Made for camera lenses but works on anything I've ever tried it on, although I haven't tried it on painted surfaces.
The very best sound: Direct to Disc
I'm glad someone remembered Umbrella.  The recordings with the Toronto Chamber Orchestra are some of the best recordings I've heard, from both a sonic and musical perspective.
