New Buyer - speakers DynAudio Contour 1.1 or 1.3se
I will tell you, I think you're in the minority in that you actually listened to the products you were considering.  That's really a step in the right direction.  But as long as you're asking, it sounds like you really want the 1.3's and you might...
CD"S
IMO, it's more about you as a person than it is anything else.  If you're the type that enjoys fooling around with computers, finding the right ripping format and program, organizing tracks, etc, etc - go for the hard drive. But if popping in a CD...
Power conditioners under $1000?
I don't have experience with other brands, but I highly recommend you look into a used Audience AR6.  They are great bargains on the used market, IMO.  I'm sure you won't be able to pick up an AR6t (teflon) within your price range, but even the st...
SACD or not SACD?
Steve Guttenberg has an interesting video on that very subject. I happen to agree with him.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSBJKOjBWlc
what is it in audio that you dislike most?
Seeing audiophiles at shows and grudgingly accepting the fact that I must be one of them.
First Post- what not to do
Don't buy new tubes for your new tube amplifier before you even listen to it with the ones it came with.
Hi, I have several black lacker box set, THAT ARE DAMAGED. some just need touch up ?
Depends how bad the dings are.  If they're small, just try a touchup with a black Sharpie pen and don't look too hard.  Once you start with paint, you run into blobs and it becomes more obvious.  There are touchup kits for cars available with blob...
What differences should I be hearing as my new system breaks in?
I always recommend Paul Desmond's alto on Take Five as a good test of whether a system has a "shouty" midrange.  Hopefully, things will smooth out.
How does wood hardness affect the sound of a TT on a wood TT platform?
I think the first thing you have to ask yourself is whether your tt is sensitive to what it sits on.  My Linn was extremely variable depending on shelf material, while my Basis is not.  I don't know what your table sits on now, but try a different...
Fan to cool room?
I have found Vornado fans to do a great job of circulating the air and giving at least an impression of cooling.  Plus they are lifetime, no-questions guaranteed.  If they ever break, send it back to Vornado for a free repair.  The best I've exper...
Re-tipped phono cartridges
Well, if someone is sending a cartridge for retipping, it's usually because it's sounding pretty ratty.  So it makes sense that the one that comes back is an improvement over what they remember.  But the deterioration of a phono cartridge is so gr...
What is trully important?
The Yamaha NS-10m, which dominated the studios in the 80’s was far from flat and analytical. In my experience, engineers and producers just wanted consistency between studios and the good ones could predict how the music would sound on a wide vari...
R.I.P. Dr. John
That sucks, man.  Pick up a copy of Dr. John plays Mac Rebennak on vinyl.  Just him playing the piano with a few vocals.  Amazing player.  I hope it went easy for him.
What is a lowball offer? How low is low?
Just offer what you feel you want to offer. A lot of people want things, but very few actually write a check, so anyone who is actually willing to come up with the $$ right now is a valuable commodity. I was once really lowballed on an item and I ...
