Are you a Verificationist about audio?
IMO - It's all an exercise in futility, as our opinions are based on our personal experience with the equipment under a set of conditions virtually impossible, or at least unlikely for someone else to replicate. For example, in my system, because ...
PA Speakers for Parties
Go away.
Percentage of cable cost
I have never gone by the "percentage" rule with cables. I think that an expensive cable is worth it when it's the cheapest way to improve your system. IMO, a box or speaker upgrade should sonically exceed the sonic contribution of a cable upgrade....
schticky to clean lp's
I have the Nagaoka record cleaner, which is basically a sticky elasomeric roller. Personally, I doubt the effectiveness of any of these rolling devices, Pixall included, to pick up anything beyond what a carbon fiber brush will dislodge on a rotat...
Novum PMR
As an ex-professional drummer, I always knew that placing several bronze cymbals around the drumkit made the drums sound better - warmer and more ambient. With this in mind, I purchased a 12" or 13" Opera Gong from Gongs Unlimited for about $60, c...
Idol fans weigh in
I think the show is a joke. A place for would be artists who are not good enough to become artists. Regardless of what Tyler might say on the show about how great they are, if any one of these performers auditioned for him and Tyler had nothing to...
Weak Bass from my SP 1/2s
It could also just be the way the speakers interface with the room. I've had experiences where smaller speakers with supposedly less bass response produced a bigger and fuller bass in my room than larger speakers. It just works that way sometimes.
Accurate speakers for a verity of genres?
forget the stuff you see here - it's not for you. Check out the Cerwin Vega 215s. Big bass, efficient, works well with receivers. You asked. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=304-030&utm_source=googleps
Good speakers under 10K.
If you listen to a lot of rock, I bet you would love Wilsons, as they have good low-end punch. While they are quite expensive new, I think they are very good deals used. Check out the Sophias or, if you have the room, the Watt/Puppys. I've seen bo...
Any hope for SACD?
It's probably worth it for someone with a player like yours, but for me, I just couldn't find a SACD player that I felt got the most out of standard CDs, I got up to about the 5K range and decided to stop chasing hi-rez. Plus, in so many cases, th...
Think you know analog?
Here's my attempt at a clickable link - hope it workshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsSY34wqiD4&feature=related
Linn Ikemi vs. Naim CDX2
I believe that Linn supports its products, but I think that they require you to go through a dealer. Good luck if you haven't purchased from a dealer, whether new or used.
Using Brillianize remove Static
If you're not against it on moral grounds, Gruv Glide really eliminates static charge. I can't say it improves or hurts the sound, but it licks the static problem. If you live in a dry climate, it makes playing records much easier. I find that one...
Buying a Gold Record?
You can only play it with a gold record player. I think Goldmund makes one.
Berkeley Alpha DAC: cabling and breaking-in time
Branislav wrote""Once your Berkeley is broken in, i'd love to hear your impressions how the Berkeley compares to the Ear Acute...thank you"Yes, I would too. I found it a little curious that you would write that the Ear sounded better, but you are ...
