Are some of us losing our minds over upgrades??
People upgrade because they believe they can get $10K sound from a $1K player with $2K worth of upgrades. I wish it were true.
Another DAC suggestion a step above Metrum Octave
What exactly does "refinement" mean in audio terms?
Power Strip
You certainly have a very impressive system. At that level, if you don't want a power conditioner, the Audience PDC has no filtering or surge protection and their products are superb. I would definitely consider one of their Teflon-cap conditioner...
Reviewing the Reviewers - and the decline of HiFi
I swear to god - I am so tired of hearing about this giant conspiracy and how the reviewers are paid off and how certain people set themselves up as the self-appointed guardians of all of us stupid audiophiles. There is no help for anyone who hang...
Spectral DMA 400 initial impressions
I don't think that every company who improves a product expects you to throw out last year's model just because a new one is out. The main thing is - the sonic differences were not significant to your ear and that's all that counts. I don't think ...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
This thread is probably dead, but I'll give it a try anyway. More people would love audio if they were the target audience of the advertising world. We all know that people in certain age brackets will buy anything that is targeted at them. Nobody...
Record Doctor V - why the $200 price tag
On the Nitty Gritty, you are supposed to apply the cleaning liquid to the velvet lips and then rotate the record to allow the lips to do the scrubbing. It is a relatively small amount of fluid and does not drip significantly. You can turn the wet ...
after TT upgrade, digital sounds like crap- help
You're saying that because it's new. So many people on here buy some new piece of gear and the next day pronounce it to be nirvana. A short time later, they're on here asking about the best IC or power cord or tweak to correct some sonic flaw and ...
A New Use for VPI Flattening Ring
People were putting bricks - actual house-building bricks, on their components back in the 80's, claiming it helped the sound. Never tried it myself, but perhaps there's something to it.
Why Build Quality Matters
Sabai - if you feel that way, I would go with a brand like Naim, who is able to service their products virtually forever. Almost. Or Bryston. I can't think of any others offhand, but I'm sure there are. Or if you're really going to agonize over th...
Why Build Quality Matters
I try to buy products that sound excellent and have a good reputation for reliability and service. No new, flavor-of-the-month digital products either. After that, I don't agonize about what's in the box or the brand of capacitor used.
Any LampizatOr Gen 4 feedback?
Gopher - If you didn't like the level 3, what made you buy the level 4? Other than a demo, but I thought you had to order them unheard. In any case, I'm sure the level 5 will be outstanding.
RP6 so many ??
Or maybe it doesn't sound good. That's possible too.
Your experience with a Spin Clean RCM?
Some friends of mine have the SpinClean and they're happy with it, but I don't think you need to go there. There are a million record-cleaning posts out there, but, IMO, the effectiveness of a record cleaning solution depends on the type of crud o...
Parasound CD-1
Hey CalvinJ - In April the Parasound was the best you ever heard and in May the Ayon is the best you ever heard. Are you really Douglas Schroeder under an assumed alias?
