Esoteric K-05 or K-07? I owned an X-05 for about 6 months and it was anything but warm or lush. Perhaps their more expensive players have a different tonal balance.
Speakers for low power SET, nearfield, low volume? Have Fritz make you a pair of single-driver standmounts. I have a pair with the 4" Fostex drivers and they really sound good at low volumes. I think they only cost about $400 and they're very well built, IMO.
Change the cartridge or phono stage Just try the Herbies mat before spending more money and taking your tonearm apart. The sound may well be improved to your satisfaction.
Lamm LL2.1 Deluxe "DC Offset"? Gr-gin, I'm sorry to say this, but you chose to make this a public matter. I cannot believe that any dealer that handles an uber high-end line like Lamm would leave you hanging with a defective product. IMO, there is more to this story than we're ...
Change the cartridge or phono stage I assume you mean the Music Hall turntable? Try a Herbies mat. You're probably thinking that a mat can't make that much of a difference, but on that table it does. Much more warmth and bottom end, IMO. Herbies gives a 30-day money back, so there's...
Tekton custom grills Maybe the guy's basement flooded.
Integrates That Go Well With Totem Forest The Bada DC225 is excellent. 75WPC, tube hybrid. $1200 at Pacific Valve with 30 day money back. If you really want to blast, Bada makes a more powerful amp at about $1800, but I haven't heard it. Also available at Pacific Valve.
looking for cable recommendations Naim amps are meant to work with a minimum of 12.5' of Naim cable in order to keep the amps stable. I believe Spectral amps might also require Spectral/MIT cables. Other than those 2, I'm not aware of any other cable/amp compatibility issues that ...
Lamm LL2.1 Deluxe "DC Offset"? That's crazy. Anything purchased new from a dealer should be delivered in perfect working condition. If they can't resolve the problem, get something else. Jesus, why would you bother buying new from a dealer except for the support? Otherwise, you...
looking for cable recommendations I would seriously check out the Black Cat cables. The designer, Chris Sommivigo, was the designer of the excellent Stereovox cables and he brought a lot of it to the much lower-priced Black Cats.
Humor In Music Steely Dan doesn't take itself too seriously? Becker and Fagen can compete with the most self-important people I could ever imagine. Maybe Fagen has changed because he's pushing 70, but back in the day, he never struck me as a person who thought h...
Lamm LL2.1 Deluxe "DC Offset"? If it's brand new, why don't you call the dealer?
Are some of us losing our minds over upgrades?? Charles, I'd venture a guess that you would agree with me that, in order to truly judge a component's merit, one needs to listen to it in their system for a significant period of time, through the complete break-in period and after the initial rus...
Another DAC suggestion a step above Metrum Octave There is an Ear Acute DAC up for sale right now. It is definitely easy to listen to, non-fatiguing and, IMO, beautiful sounding. Those Focal speakers you own can get a bit spitty at times and I think the EAR would be a great match.
Are some of us losing our minds over upgrades?? A friend of mine had the Modwright Sony 9100 (as I recall) with the outboard power supply and all. I thought it was very good, but we both preferred his Mac transport into the Audio Logic dac in terms of body and harmonic completeness. Of course, ... |
