Portable CD Player with Digital out
I simply doubt there would be enough of a demand for such a component today. Most likely there is more of a demand for iPod type players with digital outs.
Best Upgrade you had?
All these new wives and girlfriends. We must live in a mobile society. My best upgrade was an all Audio Note system correctly set up with speakers in the corners. Simply terrific!!! The best reproduction I'v ever heard. Alas, it was not to be fore...
Couple of questions on the Merlin VSM speakers...
OK, I'm back with another question on the Merlins : ) What size room is too small? Is a fairly nearfield setup with the speakers about 6 feet apart and about 7 feet from the listening position too small for the VSM? The room is perhaps 13 x 11 but...
Very Small Desktop Speakers
There is another thread on this topic in the Digital forum and in that thread someone recommended Swans M200s. Less than $200 and the comments about them are good. They are not small (about the size of an average bookshelf speaker) but don't requi...
Very Small Desktop Speakers
I saw those Tannoys and I'm curious about them because I've been a fan of Tannoy dual concentric speakers. I emailed our northern California distributor about them but have not heard back. If they resemble the sound of my D500s they could be just ...
Very Small Desktop Speakers
I'm very interested in this thread. I'm trying to find some speakers for my desktop and the audiophile in me keeps ratcheting up what I'm looking for and the bean counter in me says something reasonable. There is a guy on Soundstage who recommends...
Alternative Rack to Salamander
You can keep your Salamander rack and work with using additional materials for isolation. I use Neuance platforms. I have on on top of some Isoblicks and there is further improvement. You can also use maple on Isoblocks. or have Neuance shelves cu...
New Condo, time to downsize??
Smart move to wait and see. IME using cables of the same brand does tend to improve things and just makes it easier to match. I don't think mixing the same brands of interconnects and power cords makes as much of a difference but I have not tried ...
Mcintosh vs Parasound
What parts are in the JC-1s that could possibly take so much longer than most any other part to break in? I'm just curious about this.
Art Audio Carissa vs deHavilland 845 tube amps
Nope, I have not tried it. There was some discussion on the Asylum of whether amps would have to be retrofitted to use it and this may or may not be true but I don't know enough to know if it is and try it. The 845B is good enough for me. I'm not ...
Experience with Tannoy Kingdom series
From what I understand the Kingdoms are sold almost exclusively in Japan where they like to stuff massive speakers into tiny spaces. I don't know where you are but check with a Tannoy dealer that carries the Prestige line to see if you can even ge...
Art Audio Carissa vs deHavilland 845 tube amps
I ended up with the deHavilland Ios partly because they are local. It is simply an incredible amp! I've not heard the Art Audio. The Ios offers dynamics, deep, tight bass, and the energy and emotion of the performance really flows through. I use i...
What is the magic behind SET
In addition to the above one of the qualities I enjoy most from SET amps is something called "flow" or "continuity." The music has a more natural and continuous flow to it that you don't notice is not there in most components until you hear it the...
Where has the respect gone?
It's very easy for people to hide behind the anonymity of the Internet when posting to these forums. Some people may just get more argumentative than they normally would in person. And I agree that as the size of the audience grows the more impers...
Good 845 integrated
Second the Ios, but I don't think they can make it with remote volume.
