Most “disappeared” speakers.
It's as much about the room and speaker placement than the speakers - maybe more.
SUT or phono stage?
I suggest that you find (or make) a friend who has an SUT that will match your cartridge and try it.  I'm an SUT guy - I own several for my favorite cartridges and I prefer the sound of MC and an SUT to a high output phono stage or head amp.  But ...
Looking for speakers for my 4W SET amp
4W is tough4W is more than enough, assuming that you select symbiotic gear and aren't trying to play in a concert hall-sized space. My 45 Triode monoblocks put out 1.5Wpc and play plenty loud in my living room.  How many enthusiastic owners of de...
Bought some `Vintage Gear`
I just wish vintage gear wasn't so stupidly expensive.  I blame the Millennials! When I was in and just out of high school I worked for the old RSL.  Every dollar I made went into gear - mostly Luxman.  One of my daughters still uses some of that g...
Looking for speakers for my 4W SET amp
There are a lot of choices.  A search on Audiogon will reveal a slew of threads.  My short-ish go-to list of SET friendly speakers include:- Klipsch Heritage.  Heresy to Khorn, depending on your room and your budget- Omega.  All good.  Speak to Lo...
Speaker advice for listening to Blues music
There are a lot of good options out there.  I would consider a pair of Klipsch Heresy IIIs.  Warm, wet and fat is the best way to describe the sound.  In a small room they will probably produce enough bass and if not you can always augment with a ...
Leben CS 600 and Harbeth vs Audio Note vs ATC vs JM Reynaud
Without knowing exactly which of these vendor's products you are considering it is hard to offer useful advise.  I have limited experience with the Leben integrrated amps and Harbeth speakers, but I did own an Audio Note OTO and JM Reynaud Offrand...

First Turntable - Direct drive or Belt drive?
With regard to your primary question: Direct Drive or Belt Drive?IMO it doesn't really matter, all turntable drive types can sound good or bad.  The question is what sounds good/better/best to you?  Listen to as many turntable/cartridge phone stag...
How does Amazon sell a 300.00 cartridge for 180.00?
in the old days cartridges were among the highest markup items around, about 10x their cost. Kind of like tooth brushes at the pharmacy. Insane markups. More true for audio cables than for cartridges.
MacBook Pro Playback distortion
Try installing BitPerfect on your mac.  Makes a huge difference.  $10
I am sure this has been discussed but want a fresh take. Mapleshade / Timbernation racks?
I also like the Salmander Archetype racks - a lot of bang for the buck but they need to be tweaked to get the best sound out of them.I will add a vote for Timbernation.  The good- great racks, beautiful, solidly built and weigh a ton.  The bad 0 t...
12BH7 Nos
In my two amps that use 12BH7 I can't say that I have noticed a difference between tube brands or NOS and new.12AX7 is another matter entirely.  Long subject that has been discussed and rehashed before on this and every other audio forum.  There a...
A Tube Change Really Can Make A Difference
I haven't owned all that many Visseaux tubes but every one I had looked to me like a re-branded or OEM'd RCA tube.  And Popes were a Philips brand, made in Holland.
Mission 761i Speakers
I just bought a pair of Mission 737s for one of my daughters.  I was always a fan of Mission speakers and they still sound great.  Upgrade the output caps (cheap and easy) and you will have a great time listening to these.
