What's the most overrated or overpriced piece of equipment you own, have owned or come by?
So, dgarretson, I am curious.  What cabling do you have in your system, and why?

Synergistic Red Fuse ...
David - My preamp is the McIntosh C-220 tube/hybrid.  I will try reversing the fuse direction once my guests depart.
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Only because I promised to post a follow-up, I did receive and install the SR Black fuse in my preamp. I realize more burn-in is required. So far the biggest difference is more treble energy. Not edginess or excess brightness, but more high freque...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
mapman - interesting post. I had put a lot of foam panels up on the front wall and side walls at the hieght of the Ohm cans. I found I had too much center-fill, and not enough of a soundstage width. I removed some, and noticed an improvement witho...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Well, acurus and mapman, as much as I love the way my rig with the 2000s sounds now, you two have made up my mind.  As soon as I can afford to, I am going to start adding diffusors to my room.  Wish me luck!
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
accurus - I am very anxious to hear what you think diffussion does for the Ohms.  I am just guessing, but it makes sense to me that diffusion would benefit the Ohms much more than absorbtion.  Absorbtion seems counterintuitive to an omni or quasi-...
Why are record cleaners so expensive?
I buy most of my LPs at shows used.  So a cleaner is very important.  But like the OP, I have a tight budget.  Two of the best values in record cleaners, IMHO are:http://kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/I own this cleaner, and hook it up to a standard can...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
acurus:  Thanks for the thoughtful review.  As an owner of 2000s, I concure with most of your impressions.  There are some points I would add, though.I would not assume that after 30 hours the 2000s are fully broken-in.  They may be most of the wa...
$16K new/used speaker question?
My 2 cents - try for an in-home audition of whatever you think you want to buy.  Nothing beats an audition in your home, with your gear, without a salesman hovering.  Based on my own experience, I would rather miss out on a great pair pf speakers ...
Subwoofer
All speakers? That’s a blanket statement which implies the person making the statement has heard all speakers with and without subwoofers. That said, IME, I have generally preferred systems which properly use a subwoofer than those that do not. How...
New amp for Vandersteen 2CE
I second the Odyssey.  Although I no longer own Vandys, I had a pair of 1Cs when I first bought my Odyssey Audio Stratos HT3 (with cap upgrade).  This is a very good amplifer with smooth, detailed highs that helped take some of the edge off the Va...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Well, plunge taken. I ordered a SR Black fuse for my preamp today from local retailer Bravo AV (Tom, the owner, is a great guy; I’ve known him a few years). I did call SR prior to placing the order for some reassurance (especially after my preamp ...
Where to go from here...
dpgaloot:  The single most important thing you could tell uss appears missing from this thread:  What don't you like about your system?  Is there a specific aspect of performance, ergonomics or functionality that you would like to improve upon?  I...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
David Pritchard - Yup, I think I am going to take the plunge.  Just need to find a retailer (I would prefer a B&M dealer in my area), and make sure the correct value is available.  One month away from my B-day, so that will be my gift to mysel...
