Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? I went on Sunday. What a kick to meet John in person! I told him how his speakers bring beauty into my daily routine. He set up a pair of Walsh 1000s fed by a Peachtree integrated (150 watts/side, internal DAC), and used a $15 DVD player as a s...
Obscure bands Drill - a single CD featuring the female vocalist from KDMFM. One of my favorite CDs (although the production values are not great).
What condition will you not play on your main system? LP content As long as it is clean, and not so warped as to hit the tonearm, I will play anything. For poor quality LPs, I use a rugged Ortofon OM-30. Not as detailed as some better pickups, but it can track almost anything.
Subwoofer options for Magnepan with crossover betwen pre and amp? I am a big fan of the Vandy 2Wq. I own a pair, but not using them with panel speakers. I used them first with Vandersteen 1Cs, and now with Ohm Walsh 2000s. They continue to delight and provide deep, full, tight, accurate bass, with a seemless ...
Putting together a system...looking for some suggestions At the risk of repeating myself, I would suggest you add an in-home audition of the appropriately sized Ohm Walsh model to your list. See the Ohm Speakers web site for more info.
Putting together a system...looking for some suggestions I understand your time limitations, but ask yourself if it is a good idea to make a final purchase that you may or may not enjoy. $4K is lot of money to me, and to many. See if you can work with your dealer(s) to arrange a brief in-home trial, or ...
Music Server I don't have any personal experience with it, other than having heard it, but the Melos servers are well regarded and quite affordable.
True audio stories! Do you have any? A lo-fi tale: In the fall of 1982, as a college student, I got a part-time job at Lafayette Radio on 45th St. in Manhattan (which was wholly owned by Circuit City at the time). These were the days of cheaply made mid-fi from Sansui, Technics, JV...
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI I would love to get your impressions of the Classic vs. the Thorens once you have had some time to evaluate it. TIA.
List of musicians changed career with better success... Of course, I guess I should mention the late, great, David Bowie, who changed his stage personality and musical styles so many times it’s hard to count them all. Did the changes improve his career? How does one improve on perfection? An artist who ...
List of musicians changed career with better success... Oh, - Robert Gordon did fair as a punk rocker, but his career improved once he embraced Rockabilly.
List of musicians changed career with better success... Ministry - went from synth pop to thrash metal/punk and never looked back. sevs - Speaking of Japan, did you ever hear their first LP? It was a really bad arena rock attempt. Nothing like the New Romantic sound they went for afterwards. Also, se...
Best Small Floorstanding Speaker under $2K 3zub - Yes, I know, but I am unsure of the Element series pricing. It could be priced beyond the OP's budget. Sorry if my post was unclear.
Best Small Floorstanding Speaker under $2K I am not sure of the pricing, but if you are looking at Totem, I was much more impressed with the Element series than with the older Totem models. Just my $0.02.
Soundtracks that you listen all the way through and it's all great. Bladerunner. The Thin Red Line. Van Helsing. Bram Stoker's Dracula. The Hours (Glass). Jacob's Ladder. The Nightmare Before Chistmas (and, IMHO, any soundtrack by Danny Elfman). Baraka. The Hunger. 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Last Temptati... |
