What's wrong with a DVD player as a transport?
I agree w/the conviction that DVD players can make fine CD transports. Back when I first started obsessing w/finding a good-sounding CD player and had a Tjoeb 99, I bought a Sony DVD player (89.00) at my trusty Sony dealer -- supposedly for movies...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Pops, I must warn you against using oak. The acorns act as mini diffusors, plus they are known to lose their leaves in the winter. Stick w/pine. You're on the right track though.
Upgrade from Spendor BC-1: need ideas
I'd stick w/Spendors (SP 2/3s or 1/2s) -- slightly smaller and a very nice sound.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Best of Flying Burrito Brothers and Marian McPartland Plays Benny Carter.
Best monitor for female vocals?
I agree with Bignerd -- the Spendors really are very difficult to beat in this regard. They have a knack for reproducing the whole voice in a way many other speakers can't quite seem to do.
Spendor 2/3 or 1/2 in small room?
Yeah, the vibration thing w/the Classic series is what makes them sound the way they do. I tried to quell the vibes one time, and the speakers lost whatever it is that makes me want to make a fool of myself playing air guitar.

Albert,Funny you ask because this song sounds especially good with the tree in place, as do the old blues standards "Shake Yo' Limbs for Me" and "Ain't No Money Tree, Baby." Go figure.

I've found that pine -- yes, pine -- makes a huge difference in the spatial presentation of my system. In fact, I recently took out the wall (non load -bearing) adjacent to my listening seat so that I could erect a pine tree I cut down. Occasional...
Spendor 2/3 or 1/2 in small room?
There isn't that much difference between the output of the 1/2 and 2/3. (I use 2/3s in a similarly sized room to good effect.) You would be fine w/the 2/3s. BTW, they are wonderful speakers that never fail to sound great.
Best Neil Young Album?
Ditto for live Rust . . . mesmerizing and sheer genius.
what is the difference between good and bad music
The same was asked of Berlioz and Stravinsky.
what is the difference between good and bad music
It's a little something called "soul."
EL-34: JJ Tesla or Electro-Harmonix?
I recently went thru your exact situation and found the following:Tesla's: an unoffensive tube, evenly balanced, but just a hair lean in the midbassEH: Very lean, a sibilant bite in the mid treble, didn't make me want to listenSvet Winged C: Yes. ...
Tough Choice: Proac D25 or Dynaudio Special 25
I'm sure both of these are fine speakers, but how do know that you will really like either one w/o having auditioned them? This could end up being a risky move IMO, as many have gone down this same path only to get burned.
DIY Internal bracing for NHT 2.9
Don't do it. Narrod is right, as you'll simply be shifting the resonance to a higher frequency. If the resonance is too offensive, sell them.
