Are "Professional Grade" CD players good?
for a balanced interface, try Wadia or Accuphase.(ebay's) "pro" players may be intended for broadcast applications; we have a Tandberg like that here but I don't really think that I'd want it at home.
What is vibration isolation for?
many users laughed at component isolation & vibration control until they tried it for themselves - I was one of those myself, until I tried it.buzzard
Oil caps-any advise on sonics?
experimentation is really the only valid way to find out what will happen in your own system & what you most prefer regarding sonic signature.
From tubes to solid state
eons ago I went from tubes to SS amp & will never go back. I did try it once a couple of years ago, which only reminded me of all the reasons why...Quality tube preamps though, that I could live with, but prefer not to. I'm glad that y'all lik...

How to ascertain speaker damage?
it's probably OKDo some critical listening for awhile, then throw your balance all to one side & listen mono, then to the other side. Or switch around the two speakers & listen from the same side. Any issues will likely manifest themselves...

Twisted or Straight?

Listening Through Walls at Show: Vodoo or Valid?
IMO if it sounds bad from outside the door it's only gonna get worse the close that you get. That much of your approach is likely quite valid anyway.
Twisted or Straight?
no - never use glass fuses they sound terrible.Ceramic is the only way to go, but I have a feeling Glen that you don't subscribe to any of this nonsense. Well neither did I, until I heard it for myself. I'll never go back.
Would a Fabric Room Divider Interfere with sound?
Lug's idea sounds possibly realistic; the only way you're really gonna know however is to experiment, as is the case with so many of our sonic exploits. However, my gut says the same thing that yours does Ang.
Twisted or Straight?
Without even questioning the scientific reasoning & recommendations of cable designer Mike VansEvers I went with the twisted 10awg THHN solid copper, installed in grounded Greenfield (flexible metal conduit) for shielding. This works so well t...
cartidge recommendations needed
or perhaps the Grado moving iron (variable reluctance) high output woodbody models?
What ever happened to the stable platter?
I have 2 machines using this platter; very nice, I always liked them too. Whatever did they replace it with?
Alignment Protractors
I've had good results from the DB systems protractor which matched a Grado jig that I have used previously, if that validates anything. The mirror is nice but can't you just align azimuth with a pocket mirror?
