Cleaning vintage amps
let's not forget the good ole' Electrowash trichlor spray cleaning solvent. Ensure that whatever you use won't attack plastics.
How does length affect power cable sound quality?
I've read that longer is better [ well just ask the ladies :-) ] but seriously now...Why longer lengths are considered to sound better I don't understand, but that's how those who have experimented have answered this question. I recall that it doe...
"Search Option" suggestion for AudioGon
after time after time after time?just how many threads do we need:"how do I install a dedicated line?"
Can a cheater plug ever damage an amp's pwr supply
Tim please follow Seans' advice you may have a potentially lethal situation there. I presently ground all of my stuff, but I wouldn't hesitate to lift grounds as required to eliminate hum that can't be cured in any other way. Just always be well a...
Unbelievable Indeed
Bryan I can't believe that you haven't been crucified for this yet - of course it's believable. I've been running my dedicated outlet without a cover ever since installation. Mike VansEvers could explain the resonance physics to you, but like much...
"Search Option" suggestion for AudioGon
The forum search engine is woefully underused - same questions come up repeatedly ad nauseum. I guess people are just too lazy to even try it? I use it nearly every day, but then again the engine window could be more prominently displayed - I wond...

The best oil to use to lube a turntables spindle .
VPI recommends a synthetic oil for their spindle bearings: Mobile 1. The motor bearings are permalubed & shouldn't be oiled. Your buyer has fubar'd his motor; it might be repairable by the manufacturer though.
Has one ever heard of Stereostackers?
approach with healthy skepticism: anyone who's experimented with isolation & coupling products would not expect much from this oversimplified arrangement
a new amp hum problem...checked the archives
I've read of a transformer mechanical hum issue due to external influences - namely lamp dimmer interferences - anywhere in the house. One other situation involved an electrically noisy vent fan that somehow excited the transformer laminations int...
Why the lack of interest in Accuphase?
Just received the following interesting commentary from a friend: Because of gray market and other problems, Accuphase is now disabling the transformer switches that made changing voltages for Japanese and USA use a simple process. So from now on,...
