Audioquest - What did their "x3" designation mean?
my understanding of this is that the x3 had an additional conductor which carried the return path signal in unbalanced mode (*or* inverting path in balanced mode), vs. the x2 which actually carried return-signal on the shield iteslf, & of cour...
40' speaker cable..will I loose sound quality?
And I'd stay away from networked cables--they're as liable to exacerbate the problem as anything elseThat is an absolutely incorrect statement.
40' speaker cable..will I loose sound quality?
Those who are forced by necessity to run longer length (20'+) cabling may experience superior results by using a networked cable design - re: MIT or Transparent.I had to do this myself & found that a better-grade MIT speaker cable performs mar...
which component should i put the better cable on?
Hi Phil: this is all about synergy. If it was me: I'd first try each cord, one at a time, on your preamp only. Leave stock cords on the other equipment (assuming that they've been previously running as such). Play around with some various software ...
What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
still crying over the loss of Luxman USA. When they marketed through Alpine they were the greatest. I think Luxman is still around, but their product support & warranty issues were so shakey that I didn't buy through their Canadian dealerships...

Best Speakers Close to Walls
a dealer once told me that some of the older classic Klipsch designs (Belle, Lascala, Cornwall) are made to work up close to backwalls. Experience has shown that this assertion carries validity.
Oracle CD. Cosmetic novelty or a good player?
no experience with that machine myself, but Stereophile loved it if that's any help
Electricity fluctuations
Even if the line is "hard" at your transformer, your 100' drop coming to the house may be too small a wire gauge or may have bad connections, resulting in excess voltage loss during high current demand (heat pump running). Use a known-calibrated v...

Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
Ern has a valid point. Was just reading about NASA's "old" computer files archived from Mars Voyager mission. No one is able to read them anymore. The machines that *could* read them have all been trashed ("who needs this old junk anymore?") the p...
