Cable "burn in"
Steve great idea. This would acually be similar to the Mobie cable burner, which passes a large amplitude square wave through the interconnects into a dummy load box. I got my Mobie from Music Direct in Chicago; list price $250, I think I got abou...
Power Cords - Pixie Dust?
DM & Shasta thank you for the reports - very interesting. Just to be clear I am not trying to disbelieve nor to believe this phenomenon - I still maintain an open mind about it. I also realize that your results may not be the same as mine woul...
Cable "burn in"
the preamp doesn't usually have to be energized, but the input that you have those "cooking" cables connected to needs to be selected in order for signal current to be traveling through the cables of interest. If there's no load termination at the...
Do I need or want preamp tone controls
Blub definitely go for the tone controls. Most equipment used to have tone controls, but a lot of marginally designed equipment had them & was so compromised; those filters just weren't very good.Better designed equipment still has them availab...
Dedicated line question
you do not have a dedicated circuit per Dill's explanation above.the benefit of separate circuits for different components or different subsections (digital, video, analog, hi-power) is the isolation of them from each other, which helps prevent th...
Would 1 of those cat trees make a good bass trap?
Doubtful that you will realize a comparable effect to tube traps, which are not solid internally but have mesh screening surrounding tuned absorbtion materials inside. Mention has been made here of some DIY tube traps though, which may be able to ...
Linn LP12 Black Felt Mat How do you keep it on ?
Have a similar problem with a VPI TT, which static-clings the mat to the record after playing. This VPI has a thin (~1/16") black rubber washer approx 1" diameter, with the center hole just smaller than the spindle for a friction fit. Actually the...
Shanling T100/Granite 657 vs Levinson 390S
you'll find this thread interesting...comments on Shanling CDP
Ok this will be a good thread.
build the rig around the speakers that you have chosen to keep for a long time. Next to speakers the preamp is the most important component
Has the wool ever been pulled over YOUR eyes?

Where to buy fuse for fuse panel?
Sounds like this is this a large cartridge fuse intended for main disconnects, which is not the correct type fusebox for household circuits. But no don't overfuse; that is not safe & if you had a fire then your insurance might likely be voided...
Fuses on dedicated lines instead of breakers ???
Ken I have your email & will try to call you on Friday evening; it's been too busy at the uplink tonight but I do have some answers for you.
Dry Stylus Brush - Where to find
get a mustache brush, or a shaver cleaning kit which often has very small brushes
Power Cords - Pixie Dust?
thanks Jack that's the one!now who has actually tried this? HDM & Bob Crump apparently have. Others opinions re: "placebo effect" are obviously just that & are worth exactly what you paid for it. If you have tried this to no positive effec...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
the above opinion isn't necessarily based upon facts & completely ignores the synergy issue. What works for you won't necessarily work for me & vice versa. It's basically misinformation from the uninformed. Not intended to be a put-down, b...
