How much does your system retail for?
I'm @~$30K for strictly 2-channel, but these reports surpise me too: I read one survey where only about 10% of rigs ran over $20K. Probably the bigger spenders have more of a tendency to report here?
spade lugs
AudioQuest has some nice spades available even in different sizes. Pure OFC copper with silver plating; better than gold.
Cable "burning": Real or VooDoo ???
OK Sean you know my answer but for the others... I bought 2 pair of Synergistics (from Albert) the Resolution Reference MKII's, not exactly cheap. Charactaristics were initialy pleasing, but after several days use the highs were very veiled & ...
What type of breakers are best for audio
Although I have no experience to share regarding the opposite phases question, it has been recommended here by those whose opinons I respect & who definitely are more knowledgable than I am in that regard.
Top Ten Interconnects of all time...
2nd vote here for Synergistic ic's, with Active Shielding of course! When you switch on that shielding power supply, the stage opens up wide & deep.
Blind Listening Tests?
Katharina said it best: "double-deaf listening tests". LOL Because that's how useless this testing methodology is, at least to us.
A most unlikely cable convert
I am another EE convert from the "wire is wire" school. Still don't fully understand it but who cares? The sound is obviously our 'bottom line' not the need to understand the electrophysical reasons why. ex: You don't need to fully understand how ...
Power Strip vs. Line Conditioner
You really need to experiment extensively to determine the optimum for your rig, meaning different types of filters work better on different components, as was stated above. Example: the Chang series of conditioners offers various levels of analog...
Bi-wiring mishap
You could put this in the "worst audio injury" thread & probably get some good votes! Kelly & Wirehead I just had to give you some ++'s for the above; are we really allowed to laugh this hard?
My overlooked cheap tweak
Alcohol contains lanolin (an oil) which attracts dust & therefor is not recommended as a contact cleaner. Highly refined denatured alcohol is oil free however. Those that have tried them all recommend Kontact, & I must agree that it's amon...
What type of breakers are best for audio
Steve that sounds like you have ceramic there. That gray-ish stuff looks like a stone surface. Glass housings are obvious of course. The plastic ones I saw were kinda shiny surfaced (you know that plastic sheen). Kath: "double-deaf testing" ROFLM...
Speaker wire - equal length or shortest?
Use equal lengths absolutely. Also realize that for a run that long you are better off with a networked design cable such as MIT or Transparent. Group delay is a significant degradation factor in any cable, but especialy in longer runs of intercon...
First Sound Pesence Deluxe Linestage
It's been recommended here if you can live without a remote.
Receiver going in protect mode
Sure sounds like a speaker issue. Perhaps an intermittent breakdown crossover cap. Maybe pick up some "garage speakers" cheaply & play them for awhile. You could officially relocate them to your basement, bar, etc. after your troubleshooting.
What type of breakers are best for audio
You don't go thru the mains breakers at all. You stub directly off the mains lugs with large (#8 or #6) stranded wire to your good ole' fuse panel located right next door. Since I'm 'fanatic' I burnished all contacts with crocus cloth, including t...
