Belle Klipsch VS La Scalla?
I tried another tube preamp ($2600 list) this weekend - same result as always: tube-rush noise, microphonics, ringing, yuck!
Cable Costs Relative to System
Weiserb: Let me introduce myself as "that electrical engineer who buys into cable hype". That's me, among many others. I used to refuse to believe in any of this, until I tried it myself. Just as many of you do, I have a considerable sum invested ...
Belle Klipsch VS La Scalla?
I heard that Mr. Winoguy! Trying a Cary pre this weekend thanks for your input.
coax Y connector
Certainly there are commercial grade 75 ohm splitters available. We use quality splitters from Mini Circuits here at our satellite earth station but they have BNC connectors vs. RCA's that you would need. Video production parts vendors may have wi...
Auditioning Audio Gear - The Music Used
Stevie Nicks 'Enchanted' HDCD boxed set is my acid test. There's something about her voice that's very difficult to resolve cleanly; if the rig handles Stevie smoothly, only then do I continue testing.
Ringing heatsinks
The Belles Hot Rod employs Cramolin damping compound to damp resonances. Andy Bartha sells something he calls "whatchamacallits" (I don't know what these are, nor how to access his website, although he supposedly has one) anyway these are also use...
Ayre V3 owners. What preamp do you use?
Gold: if they'll still do the upgrade & you want to keep your amp then get it done soon. As you may know they've discontinued the V3 because it became too expensive to build anymore even after the 2 price increases. I still use a Chang power c...
Bryston 3B ST or McCormack DNA 1
I'm reporting back on the Belles. Tried both the 150A & 350A. Both were so laid back & rolled off I almost thought that my tweeters were blown out. Not to say that it wouldn't be good for others; Stereophile loved the 150A Hot Rod.
RF Induced Humming??
Ok Dave this seems a bit more complex that first thought. Not sure now how the cable's ground hum is getting into your rig, as it sounds like they're isolated from each other, but apparently they are not (unless of course as in when you connect th...
RF Induced Humming??
Your info is a bit incomplete Dave but I take it you're plugging an audio feed from the TV into your preamp? I had hum problems doing that, but found an easy way out. Car audio shops have little audio isolation transformers with RCA's in & out...
Belle Klipsch VS La Scalla?
I'm a big Kilpsch fan, I once met Mr. PWK at a presentation he gave in St Louis. Yeah he was way out there, but a great guy IMO. I couldn't fit the corner horns in my L.R. so I got the Belles & they were not exactly cheap. Unlike many designs,...
Best cable for internal speaker wiring??
Kimber Cable has D.I.Y. cable offerings: a full assortment is available for these projects. Ask for their brochures & price list, being sure to specificaly request the DIY page. Their tech suport is very good in that regard. However, be sure i...
Static on CD playback?
I've had success smoothing out harsh CD's using "Endust for Electronics" antistatic spray. Cut a small piece of lint free paper towel (the blue ones) & spray on that. Then swipe the LABEL side of the CD with the Endust. & even if it doesn'...
Settings for Lehmann Black Cube
Although I'm no authority in this regard, I understand that load impedance of the phono stage should be set to match the MC cartridge's impedance. So for R=30 ohms your load should match that. Anyone else concur?
Cheap system for garage
the boombox makes sense here. Good place, probably the only suitable place for a Bose (ugh) product, LOL.
