Timbrel Accuracy
I think Cornfedboy may be operating a couple watts shy of rated power tonight. The best preamp in that category I have heard, and own, is the Air Tight.
High-end CD cleaning machine?
I use Auric Illuminator and am very pleased with it. I like it better than Optrix. As for a machine... I would be reluctant to trust one. It only takes a few minutes to treat a disc by hand, and I have total control over the process.
Dedicated circuits...am I missing something?
You have a good start. The limiting factor now seems to be the physical connections at all the AC outlets between the breaker and your system outlet. When I lived in a townhouse, I had an electrician remake all these connections so that none were ...
Amp protection circuitry? all that its cracked up to be?
I share your concern. I plug everything, amp and HDTV included, into my Tara AD/10B. It has a built in GFI and I never noticed a loss of dynamics. The sound and video are cleaned up considerably.
Lambda - What is this feature on CD Players?
Lambda, the Greek letter as a math symbol, is universally used in physics and electronics for the wavelength of any electromagentic wave. Other than that, you will have to listen to any effect it produces. Using a familiar source CD, listen carefu...
Is there anyone who came back from tubes to SS?
I sold my Rogue Amp simply for more power than its 60 watts. I got a great deal on an Accuphase P-450 SS amp. I miss the sweetness of tubes but I cannot argue with the raw horsepower of this beast. I still have an Air Tight tube preamp which I wou...
Anyone under 30?
All audio-heads are welcome here! You are never too young to start and never too old to upgrade. I purchased my first system in 1977 and have never found a cure for upgrade-itis. Once you are hooked, you are in for keeps!Good Listening.
Cabling throughout system
I have found that Tara Labs are very neutral. I recommend looking for used Air series interconnects, digital and speaker cables... but the RSC Ref. Gen. series, the next step down, are also quite good. There are many good bargains on Tara right he...
commodity liquidity
This has been a great summer for bargain hunters here on AudiogoN. I believe this is directly tied to the economic downturn this year. When the economy picks up, and it will, we will all be paying close to full retail again.
Did anyone manage to ``repare'' a buzz, ever?
Make sure the ground connection of your cable TV is clean and solid. Next, I would check if you have any halogen lamp dimmers and/or ceiling fan variable speed controls. These devices throw a huge amount of noise into AC power. If that fails, the ...
Ever add a Aftermarket Cord to a TV?
I have also used a DIY cord on my TVs. I recently put a Tara Prism AC Reference on my Sony HDTV with excellent results. I also got great results by upgrading the stock power cord on my CATV box. Good Luck!
Electrical gurus please help....
Hey Jdcmac... and industrial grade outlet should be fine, just be sure that the solid copper wires are screwed into the sides of the outlet instead of simply pushing them in.Your system would definitely benefit from an AC power filter. The two you...
SS or tube preamp? Which one?
I like tubes as well, but keep this in mind: many movies have artificial dynamics and deep bass sound effects which are not present in quality Jazz and Classical music recordings. Tubes are for music, not car crashses, automatic weapons fire and t...
Preamp expriences? Good value amp
I owned a Rogue 66 before upgrading to Air Tight. I found the 66 to be warm and musical and a good match to my Maggies with their ribbon tweeter. If you get the remote control volume, I think you may loose the tape monitor button. Also, the mute o...
New Transport Approach
Kirk, I like your suggestion. With the entire disc in RAM, any number of processing algorithms and could be applied and perhaps a substantial decrease in jitter when the signal is clocked out to the DAC directly. There would also be instantaneous ...
