imaging and speaker placement with tv in center After much experimenting, I have placed my Maggies as such, which is nowhere near the Cardas setup: tweeters on the inside, inner edge 44 in. from back wall, outer edge 48 in.from back wall and inner edges 56 in. apartI also use my system for 2 ch...
i want better preamp than levinson no.26 I really like my Air Tight ATC-3 tube preamp. It is fast, musical and extended. It also has lots of guts! I use a Tara Decade power cord on it, but it has been discontinued. I use the Tara Air power cord from the wall to my power filter, which the...
Cables with the best highs Using different speaker cables might work, but there are minor differences in the impedance and inductance, which may or may not blend well together. By using the same manufacturer and same length, you can be certain that you are not introducing m...

New One-box Accuphase Cd and SACD player? You refer to the new DP-85, which is now on their website. However, since the survival of SACD is not entirely certain, the DP-75V, which is modifiable with cards, may be more future-proof as a stand alone player.
laid back, warm interconnects with tight bass clean highs I have found my Tara Air2 and Air3 to meet your criteria after a generous break-in of 50 to 75 hours. They are neutral and extended but can be very revealing if you have problems in the HF. The bass is very tight and controlled. However, I recomme...
Bookshelf sized-cost no object Throw in my vote for the Proac 1SC. They were incredible for their size, especially when driven by all tube gear.
Klipsh near New Hampshire If you are looking for raw volume level, then check out the Klipsch web site, there may be a dealer list there. Go to Audiogon's Manufacturer List and click 'K'. 15 years ago I had a pair of Cornwalls and an Adcom 200wpc amp. I could easily genera...
A good speaker question The array of tweeter screws on my Maggies sounds best when tightened and then backed off about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. The screws holding the feet to the panels need to be 'spot torqued' ( thanks Massvm ) periodically.
Line doubler, do I want one???? If you haven't already, you may want to invest in a good AC line conditioner and power cord first. Then play with the contrast/brightness ratio. Since you can't get more lines than are broadcast and/or capable of being processed by your tuner, a l...
Seeking advice from Maggie owners I have had Maggies for 13 years in 4 different listening rooms with 3 different amplifiers (class A, tube, and class AB) and have never tired of their sound. They are very sensitive to room placement and are very revealing in high frequency inform...
Expensive tweaks-are they worth it? I agree with Albertporter, the Walker HDLs were a definite improvement to my Maggies. I use 2 sets because they are biwired. I purchased them after hearing them on a pair of Sound Lab Ultimates. He correctly points out that your system must be 'mo...
PS Audio P300/Rogue 66 preamp wierdness The Rogue 66 is a solid, musical preamp. My suggestion is to use the most basic settings, i.e. a solid 60Hz sine wave, with the least waveform compensation possible. That loud hum is telling you something is not right.
Armor-all I remember the Armour All thing. The original author of the tweak later had to issue an embarrasing retraction with instructions on how to remove it.
P600 and Power Consumption Your concern is genuine, but you will need to a bit of homework. First, contact PS Audio and get the P600 idle power useage in watts. Second, add up all the idle power usages of the components plugged into it. Divide the grand total, in watts, by ... |
