Using a power strip in an old home that was build back in 1955
My first question would be what are you planning to plug into this box?  With so many plugs, will you be overloading the circuit?  Do you have the opportunity to run a dedicated gounded line fron your main panel?  If grounding is important,  I don...
Is Recording quality the real culprit?
@ibmjunkman  Good One 🤣 As for AI entering the picture, I was very interested in George Martin's son using AI to dissemble and then re-mix the Revolver LP.  I assume if the time, money and interest were there, they could take a four channel recor...
Is Recording quality the real culprit?
Let's be honest.  Who else had to google the definition of "gestalt"? 🤣  But has the point been missed?  An engineer piles everything into the center or worse, takes a trio and places two instruments in each other's lap, right in the center and pi...
Is Recording quality the real culprit?
I have argued this point many times.  Sure a better system makes good recordings sound their best, but as the saying goes, Your Can't Polish A Turd.  You can only reproduce what's on the recording.  No amount of money spent is going to change that...
Power Amplifier - Maximum Resolution & Detail!
@deep_333  It would seem there are as many great amps as there are members offering opinions.  I assume many are recommending what they have in their own system.  So I'll just give a +1 to Hegel amps.  I've owned three, working my way up to the H3...
A Noob Asking About Power Cables
@tampabaycenter   Whatever you decide to do, just make sure the retailer offers a no questions asked, 100% refund policy.  The golden ear club hears an improvement with big $$$ power cables.  Confirmation bias or actual betterment?  Don't know and...
What was the most expensive record that you ever bought ?
I have to cheat a bit and say $450 for the 250th Anniversary CD box set of the complete recordings of Beethoven on the D.G. lable.
Watts! How many do we need?
@dogearedaudio   You are correct that Sanders is speaking about ESL for the  most part.  I listened to your attached file.  Very interesting.  I would suggest you could start at the 25 min mark as he doesn't really get into the meat of the subject...
Watts! How many do we need?
@immatthewj  Scroll up about 15 posts and you will see I pasted a potion of the paper and included a link to the full paper.  Sanders does a good job explaining the perceived difference in tubes and SS, and why many systems may be underpowered.   ...
Watts! How many do we need?
@immatthewj   I think that Sanders covered this question fully in his paper?
Watts! How many do we need?
Beyond my paygrade.  We should all buy and listen to what we like.  There is no one right answer when it comes to amp power.  As pointed out in several comments, which I agree with, there are many factors that determine the proper combination of e...
Watts! How many do we need?
@immatthewj   Actually, all watts are the same.  There's a scientific calculation that defines a watt.  It's all the other stuff that makes the difference.
Martin Logan 13A's with Rel subs? A match?
@mikepaul   To your question of one or two subs, I think the answer lies in the amp you are using.  If you have a single stereo amp, the REL connection will capture all the bass.  However, if you are running monoblocks, you absolutely require two ...
Watts! How many do we need?
@mlsstl  I'll be the first to admit how little I know about much of this hobby.  I believe what Sanders is trying to get across is the fact that many people are oblivious to the fact their amps may be clipping and are under powered, and that their...
Thumper’s Mother
Hey, let's see if we can break the 900+ posts recorded so far on the Some thoughts on ASR and the reviews thread.  I'm sure if we really put our hearts and minds into the challenge, and start getting really mean spirited about it, we can pull it o...
