Quick and free fuse tweak Ya know, the little damping dots by Marigo and Machina Dynamica, and the damping sheets by ASC (Wall Damp) and EAR (IsoDamp), may provide even better damping of the glass tube of fuses than does masking tape. Then there is the Synergistic Research...
Light weight speaker cables Clear Day (silver), which you'll have to find used (their maker has passed away). Very lightweight, and lots of people like them.
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing? Okay, thanks mofi. If anyone has a couple of Those Things (2-3/4" square x 3/4" thick), or either the Pucks or Pits (both 2-3/4" round x 3/4" thick, one having a 1/4-20 threaded insert on one side and a dimple on the other, the other one 1/4-20 th...
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing? Are the "Those Things", "Pucks", or "Pits" still available?
My 1st Tube Equipment Experience Ah, I was thinking of the Herron RIAA phono amps, which use 12AX7's and 12AT7's. Never mind ;-) .
TT on Symposium Super Segue - slate or maple underneath? Tony, you can get WallDamp directly from ASC in Eugene Oregon, I believe. They (Acoustic Sciences Corp.) offers in in 4" squares, but also scrap pieces by the pound, trimmed pieces from end of rolls or installation jobs they do. I ordered some pie...
My 1st Tube Equipment Experience Frank Van Alstine used the 5751 tube in place of the stock 12AX7 in his Dynaco PAS pre-amp mod. Quietest tube pre-amp I've owned, or even heard. The 5751 is a little lower in gain than the 12AX7 though. Has anyone tried a 5751 in the Herron?
Quick and free fuse tweak Resonance damping! Maybe there will soon be a fuse damper by Herbies. I wonder if ASC WallDamp is too thick, and will inhibit the air-cooling of the glass envelope? Or if such cooling is even a concern? Better not ask Roger Modjeski ;-) .
TT on Symposium Super Segue - slate or maple underneath? Right @fsonicsmith, the Symposium Segue (and Super Segue) don’t include a set of the Rollerblocks; the consumer must buy them separately and put them in place between table and Segue, or under a no-spring (presumably) Symposium platform. My situati...
TT on Symposium Super Segue - slate or maple underneath? Geoff, the Symposium system is a trio of their Rollerblocks under the turntable (which provides isolation in all planes but the vertical), sitting on top of their Segue shelf (which is an outer skin of stainless steel with a center layer of foam. ...
TT on Symposium Super Segue - slate or maple underneath? @tonyptony: What you want is stiffness and non-resonance. An easy way to reduce resonance is to install constrained-layer damping (Green Glue, ASC Wall Damp, EAR IsoDamp) between two stiff (and possibly dissimilar; your 3" maple block and 1/2" pie...
Roadrunner reapearance Lew, I too have the PE Eagle PSU and Roadrunner tech running my VPI and Townshend Audio tables (Bill, I’m the fella you made your last Eagle for after you closed up shop, from the parts you had left lying around ;-). But this new DC motor w/ Condo...
Tribute bands or bands/artists making a comeback..any favorites out there?? I saw a really good Eagles tribute band out of Vancouver, B.C. last year: Eagle Eyes. Perfect 3- and 4-part harmonies, excellent musicianship. I'm not a big Eagles fan, but these guys nail it.
What was your first big eye opener with regard to audio? Hearing electrostatic speakers for the first and second time. First time the RTR tweeters in the ESS Transtatic I, the second time the Infinity Servo-Static I.Then it was hearing a direct-to-disk LP played by a Decca cartridge. I don't separate th...
Whats on your turntable tonight? Geez, James, I really AM confused! You’re right, it’s Everyday Records. The store on Sandy Blvd. is pretty junky, like a clearance-price woman’s clothing store. I’ve been there twice, last time on this year’s Record Store Day. At 8 AM they were al... |
