Glue choices for making the Garrard 301 plinth @glennewdick, I wasn't aware there was such a thing as bamboo plywood. That is VERY interesting! The appeal of Baltic Birch ply to me lies more in it's very thin and numerous plies than it's being made of birch wood. I believe bamboo is a harder w...
The term "High End" needs to die. Long live Hi-Fidelity! Audio magazine was great, the only U.S.A. "news stand" hi-fi mag during the 70's and beyond I had any use for. Being somewhat of an Anglophile, I like that the U.K. had a number of them.
Shout out your favorite Audio dealer!! 1- The whole crew at Brooks Berdan Ltd. in Monrovia, CA, starting with Brooks' widow Sheila as manager, shop tech Tom Carione, and tube expert/collector/dealer Joe Knight. Great people, great shop.2- Brian Berdan at Sound Elements in Pasadena, CA....
What does a 'refined sounding' speaker mean ? It means it's an ESL. ;-)
What is wrong with a sub? Maybe "guys are bass crazy" because bass makes music as physical as it is. A lot of music systems sound anemic to me, lacking the physicality of live music. Dames listen to music from the waist up ;-) .
what is it in audio that you dislike most? 1- Not currently having a music room big enough for my Magneplanar Tympani T-IVa loudspeakers.2- A component I've been saving up for goes out-of-production before I can buy it, immediately thereafter becoming all but unobtainable.3- Not having eno...
A reappearance of Black Diamond Racing? Thanks a million @slaw. I don't know how I missed that, but they actually have the pits and pucks in stock, $55 apiece.
Whats on your turntable tonight? @reubent: Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives, imo the best music combo in the world at the moment. What a group! Drummer Harry Stinson is a world-renown drummer and harmony singer (he is not just a session drummer, but also a session harmo...
The term "High End" needs to die. Long live Hi-Fidelity! In the thread entitled (I believe it was) "Audiophile Or Music Lover?" a while back, I noticed a fair number of posters identified as music lovers first, their audiophile leanings being as in service to the music. Sure, hi-fi can be thrilling, but...
Glue choices for making the Garrard 301 plinth Oh, if you’re willing to use the hot hide glue, even better! I’ve never used Titebond’s Hide Glue, but as it comes pre-made in a bottle, it’s not as "genuine" as the professional, industrial hot stuff I have used. Once that stuff is made, it has t...
Just received shipment of my Magnepan LRS’s "I'm not saying you are wrong". That's good, because it was not I who said it, but rather Wendell Diller, in a press release. Have you bothered to read it? Don't blame the messenger!Whether I or anyone else agrees or disagrees with what Wendell sa...
Glue choices for making the Garrard 301 plinth Titebond's Genuine Hide Glue would be an excellent choice. Hide glues are "stiffer" and harder than are "regular" glues, which exhibit a little "give". I used hide glue when I was working in a cabinet shop, the glue made by pouring dry hide powder...
Help ! Rather than give the CD's to The Salvation Army or Goodwill, offer them to Audiogoner's willing to pay to ship them. I'll bet there are plenty of guys who would love to acquire the fruits of your musical wisdom, schubert!
Just received shipment of my Magnepan LRS’s @gammonit_2000: BS? On whose part? Have you bothered going to The Planar Speaker Asylum and reading Wendell’s quote for yourself? If you don’t believe it, you can give Magnepan a call and ask them. I don’t know if you can get Wendell himself on th...
The term "High End" needs to die. Long live Hi-Fidelity! Another term JGH used (as did I believe Dick Olsher, his protégé) was Perfectionist Audio. That term suggests the goal (the perfect reproduction of musical recordings, unachievable of course), regardless of the price it takes to get there.HP and h... |
