Pass amp paired with audio research pre?
ARC owners can sometimes resemble owners of Linn ;-) .
Here is an interesting artist that's new to me, and I wanted to share his music.
Batiste is the musical director on Stephen Colbert's Late Show. You can see and hear Jon every weeknight at 11:35 PM!
Pass amp paired with audio research pre?
@fanotunes, I would attribute the lifeless sound you hear to the LS-16 before the RM200 (I've owned both, and dumped the 16). Check into how ARC creates the balanced XLR outputs on the LS-16. Since the RM200 has true balanced inputs, you may as we...
Does it come down to the mastering quality only??
Absolutely @onhwy61. Many of the recordings that feature James Jamerson on electric bass are of mediocre or worse sound quality, yet hearing his playing never fails to get me high. There are plenty of excellent sounding recordings that leave me un...
My Cary amp - the story of a hum and a bug
I know what I would do: send the amp to Cary to fix, when it is received back sell it, and never again buy a Cary product. There are plenty of other amps and amp companies out there, no need to settle for a poorly designed one from a company treat...
How Do You Deal With Baffle Edge Diffraction?
@elizabeth, it may be of interest to you (if you don't already know) that Danny Richie is largely responsible (along with Brian Ding) for the design of the Rythmik/GR Research OB/Dipole Sub that mates so successfully with planar loudspeakers like ...
Pass amp paired with audio research pre?
@fanotunes, Tim deParavicini's EAR-Yoshino electronics don't get much love here (though they do elsewhere, including at Positive Feedback by Robert Levi, and in the UK press, especially Ken Kessler in HFN&RR. Ken loves Tim's stuff), but his 86...
Phono Cable Recommendation Please
IMO, the best way to go is to have one’s arm rewired with one uninterrupted run from cartridge tags to RCA (or XLR) plugs. That can actually be cheaper than a phono cable! Very cost effective, enabling the arm to produce the best sound it is capab...
How Do You Deal With Baffle Edge Diffraction?
John Bau did the same on his Spica loudspeakers. Richard Vandersteen puts a thin felt sheet around the drivers in his Model 2 and 3.
What was your first system? When was that?
After escaping from high school in June of ’68, I got myself a job for the summer before starting college in September, mostly to get money for a car and a hi-fi. That Fall I bought myself a Garrard SL55 table and Shure M44e cartridge, a used Fish...
Pass amp paired with audio research pre?
@fanotunes, did you mean to say you currently have an RM-200? I’ve never heard of an RM-100! It, like the Pass amps, has a relatively low input impedance: 20k single-ended, 30k balanced.
Classical Music for Aficionados
I too find the Gardiner book on JSB a difficult read. I have put it down for now, but will get back to it in due time. In the meantime, I'll listen to his fantastic recordings.
FYI: VPI HW-19 motors
Yes it will, but for all the info you could want or need on the HW-19 is available on the VPI Forum, which a Google search will lead you to.
Found the bass culprit in my monitor speakers...
The acoustic stuffing "tricks" the air inside the enclosure into "thinking" the enclosure is larger than it actually is (the stuffing slows down the air molecules). The size of the enclosure and amount of stuffing is part of the designer's tuning ...
Just received shipment of my Magnepan LRS’s
The Rythmik/ GR Research OB/Dipole Sub kit retails for about $1500/pr (that buys you four 12" servo-feedback woofers and two plate amps containing the OB-mandated dipole-cancellation compensation filter circuit), the flatpack H-frames the kits are...
