The Absolute Sound "review" of USB cable reads suspiciously like a press releaste Are there two bdp24's? I don't even know what UBS means. You musta got me mixed up with one of the other good lookin' guys.
Weight, Clamp or stabilizer? Regarding turntable feet that are adjustable, there are two fairly-new excellent ones: the IsoAcoustics GAIA (reviewed by Art Dudley in the June Stereophile), and the Townshend Audio Seismic Pods (or the company’s Seismic Platform, which has Pods ...
Hendrix 50th Anniversary Electric Ladyland Box Release If that's the case @tzh21y, the least you can do is spell Jimi's name correctly. ;-)I saw and heard him/them live twice, and while I know a few guys my age who still like his/their music, to me and many of my contemporaries it sounds pretty dated....
Does anyone have any impressions about the Aphex Sound Exciter ? The piece of gear used in studios in the 1970’s (primarily on vocals) was named the Aphex Aural Exciter. Is that was is being referred to here? It was a harmonic distortion generator, used by Peter Asher on the Linda Ronstadt albums he produced.Be...
So just how much vinyl do YOU own? I still refer to 12" 33-1/3 RPM records as LP's, not vinyl. ;-)
Soundlab A3s and thoughts. Call Dr. Roger West, designer and maker of SoundLab speakers, and ask him for recommendations.
Why No McIntosh Recommendations? McIntosh is what used to be called "Carriage Trade". Hi-fi bought by wealthy consumers more by price tag and faceplate flash than by superior sound. I don’t know if that is still the case with contemporary McIntosh, but I suspect it is.
Turntable Advice? @lewm, and then there is the matter of a TNT (or Aries, or any other VPI as far as I know) with the Eclipse package installed in place of the stock Hurst AC motor. Bill Carlin was talking on the VPI Forum a few years back about the need for a bett...
Turntable Advice? @lubachi, Phoenix Engineering closed down when the Falcon and Eagle PSU and Roadrunner were discontinued (those were the company's only three products). PE design engineer/owner Bill Carlin posted a lot of info on the design of his products on the...
Perception I hang with musicians, most of whom couldn't care less about hi-fi. Evan John's system was a boom box. Lots listen to music on their computer's speakers, any disposable money they get goes to buying another instrument. Unlike hi-fi components, vin...
Mapleshade or Butcher Block Acoustics A sheet of 19mm 13-ply Baltic Birch in the standard 5’ x 5’ size will cost one less than $100. It may then be cut into shelves of any dimensions desired. Each of the 13 layers is alternated 90 degrees relative to those on either side.
Whats on your turntable tonight? I saw The Music Machine live in ’66, and they were really "tough". When I moved to L.A, in ’79, the first place I visited was Forest Lawn Cemetery, to pay my respects to Bobby Fuller (if you do the same, he is listed under his given name, Robert)....
Anyone compared Sanders Magtech vs. McIntosh MC462/52 or MC611/01 with Magnepan 3.7/20.7? @jimmy_jet, your post brings up a few different matters:1- The Fletcher Munson Curve Erik alluded to (Google it for info).2- The power requirements of the MG3.7i. Highly dependent upon room size and acoustic properties (diffusion preferable to abs...
Turntable Advice? @lewm, nope, the new Eclipse package is described on the SOTA website as "a low-vibration 3-phase brushless DC motor paired with a state of the art motor controller developed by Phoenix Engineering, known as the Condor." The Eclipse package retail...
Turntable Advice? @keegiam, your worn-out motor provides you with the perfect excuse to spring for the new SOTA 3-phase DC motor, along with the Phoenix Engineering-designed motor controller made expressly for it, and the Roadrunner tach. |
