What are the best loudspeakers under $4000 to re-create lifelike piano
I love the sound of the piano that my Harbeth C7ES3s produce.  Very natural and life like depending on the quality of the recording  and source of course. Joni Mitchell records sound amazing, as does the David Bowie "Alladin Sane" album.  So do ce...
Harbeth 30.1 or legacy calibre
good thoughts and I am carefully considering the plan for my next upgrade.  i have a decent sub and it sounds great but to get it to play the bass with the most impact I would need to high-pass the main speakers, something I am not willing to do. ...
Harbeth 30.1 or legacy calibre
interesting stuff.  i currently have the harbeth C7ES3 and love them but was impressed by the Calibre at the AXPONA audio show in Chicago.  they will definitely play loud and clean with lots of punch but the program material was not broad enough t...
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp?
tube preamps can add some degree of tube sound and frequency response.  tube power amplifiers deliver the bulk of the tube sound especially the large vivid sound stage.   ranking in terms of preference-all tube based systemtube power amp / solid s...
3 Cartridges Reviewed
ok thanks, the art 9 is definitely refined and clean sounding.  on my table it has a peak at a certain low bass frequency that thickens the sound a little.  gives it a warm presence.  you also have me wondering about the MIMC star again.  lots of ...
3 Cartridges Reviewed
nice thorough review, thank you.  before I bought the ART9 I had both the Quintet Black and the MIMIC Star on my short list.  Although the '9 is not perfect for me, based on what you write about the others I made the right call.  My main issues wi...
Can't set rake angle right even lowest VTA (digital microscope checked)
So if you raise the tail to level the needle must lean forward by an extreme amount then - 6 degrees or so?  Something is not right with that cantilever- possibly bent downward.
Can't set rake angle right even lowest VTA (digital microscope checked)
WIth the tonearm tail as low as it can go, the stylus is 4-degrees from vertical (90-degrees)?  If you look at the stylus from the side, does it lean to the front or rear of the tonearm?
High mass vs Low Mass Turntables - Sound difference?
Let me axe this-which design is less likely to be affected by environmental vibration?  I am guessing it would be the high mass designs because I own one and it is never affected by vibration.  I see lots of people with Regas that need to mount th...
Tekton Double Impacts
Very interesting speakers!  The stereophile mention of the Impact monitors had me searching around and I landed on this thread for the DIs as well a very favorable convincing video review of the DIs by Zerofidelity.  The idea of the ring of tweete...
Do I have to spend $4000 plus to get a better sounding speaker than GET model 7 ?
sunny j-i have heard most of the GE line including your 7s and 80% of the speakers on your wish list.  as others have mentioned, the GEs are decent HT speakers but not quite optimized for simulating a live musical sound stage.  they have "syntheti...
LP's... Do they sound better now than 30 yrs ago?
Listen to a modern reissue by Analog Productions / Quality Records or MoFi and they will take your head off they sound so amazing.  However it does take a fairly decent vinyl setup (cart/tuentable/phono preamp) properly set up to get there.  noise...
What direction is VPI headed?
wow.  mat is doing a great job at trying to manage the product line and make his dealers and customers happy.  his explanation and openness was refreshing and much more than some of these comments deserve.  you all should be ashamed of yourselves....
Another soundstage question
get a tube amplifier.  seriously.   my soundstage went from big screen TV size to wall to wall, floor to ceiling size.
