good topic brent!  good source for new music and recordings!  My best sounding include: 1) Donald Fagan, The Nightfly"  Literally the absolute best sounding recording I have ever heard..  Clarity, dynamics, bass, imaging.  All others are no. 2 or ...
Best Cartridge for $1000-$1350?
ART 9 .  dial it in and it won't be bright or analytical- warm and smooth and extremely clean, biggest sound stage i have ever witnessed from a cartridge.  my ortofon cadenza blue barely beats it...
Has anyone heard the Tannoy XT8Fs?
yes, had a listen looking for new speakers- heard them on two occasions in two different rooms and supporting equipment.  bass was overblown / boomy and the treble was noticeably edgy, crispy and the upper midrange was unrefined.  The XT6F are far...
Harbeth 30.1 ? The Ultimate Speaker under $5K ?
hope you had a chance to hear the C7s also.  more natural than the SHL5+ and bigger sound than the 30s.   A great speaker.  FYI adding a good subwoofer (i recommend JL audio) makes the sound bigger as well.
Highest detail cartridges
Ortofon Cadenza Blue.  Stunningly good cartridge with the right phono preamp.
Harbeth 30.1 ? The Ultimate Speaker under $5K ?
The key to your situation is your amplifier- the Marantz PM11S1 dual mono design is a superbly robust, smooth muscular amplifier that will bring the Harbeths alive in your room. I would recommend the C7ES3 vs. the 30.1 because they do have a bigge...
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
will this substance be recommended for internal selector switch contacts- e.g. for source and speakers ? -as for the off topic part- here are facts on historical record- no opinion (if interested).in the history of the world, there have been (4) s...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
the GCPH should be fine for the ART9 in terms of gain and loading options - e.g. 60db @  100 ohms.  The '9 should sound amazing on the Technics 'G, I used it on the GR for a while and it really upgraded the sound of the ART9 compared to my previou...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ...
It will be a great match for your table.  I have the Dynavector DV20X2L and the ART9 is a clear upgrade from that one and should easily top your 10X5
Mofi Ultra Tracker, reviews, opinions?
very smooth cartridge, i heard an extensive demo one day not too long ago.  however at ~ $100 less the Nagaoka MP 200 sounds much better to my ears in terms of detail, extension at each end, speed and dynamics.  easily the cartridge of choice unde...
Dynaudio vs. Focal - Bookshelfs - Help me Decide!
heard the special 40s extensively and they sound metallic and edgy, vs the contour 20 which sound smooth as silk.  shame you have to spend $5K for them.  focals do absolutely nothing for me.  none of them, but this is my developed preference in so...
Recommended phono stage to go with McIntosh
match the phono preamp to your target cartridge in terms of gain and loading options.  match your target cartridge to your turntable tonearm in terms of system effective mass, cartridge compliance and calculated resonance frequency.  getting these...
Phono Preamp Recommendations
Sutherland 20/20.  I love mine and it is so transparent as to make other changes easily noticeable.  Price hasn't changes since its introduction in 2011 I believe and it should be a $3K phono by rights.  Stereophile class A  and it sounds every bi...
Will fine tune adjustments with protractor help with "brightness?"
Of course the Technics engineers know what they are doing wth respect to tonearm geometry and alignment.  However it is a proven fact that different flavors of alignment have different distortion characteristics over the arc of the record surfaces...
