What is missing here?
My solid state pure class A single ended sugden @ 30 watts into 8 ohms (40 into 4 ohms) sounds better than my 90 watt class AB amp, at least to my ears. It sounds effortless and organic as well as dynamic. It’s actually an amazing amplifier whethe...
Want to setup basic home audio system
Watch the audiophiliac on youtube, he does these videos all the time...systems under 2500, under 1500, under 1000, etc....
The psychological factor
I find 9 o’clock and 10 on my sugden class A is plenty loud driving my tannoys. This is for both cd and lp’s. To think it only has 30 watts into 8 ohms....I’d guess by the volume it is capable of putting out, it has a lot more, but most likely not...
Speakers suggestion help
Just buy some tannoys and be done....
ls FM radio even listenable any more?
WGBH 89.7 Boston, as well as WCRB 99.5 Boston both sound terrific. I use a Cambridge Audio t500 tuner as well as a Marantz st6000. My antenna is a large Winegard in the attic aimed towards Boston.  I’m a bit over 30 miles away in the burbs...
High Performance Audio - The End?
I would give up resolution for a more pleasing warm non fatiguing sound any day. You are never going to achieve "real" as it does not exist. If you require real, then attend a performance. In fact, I feel that music reproduced in my home sounds be...
Options for ridding records of static electricity
The original zerostat gun (red) by discwasher is an effective tool, as well as a leather mat. Also the audioquest carbon fiber brush with the brass colored metal in the handle (newest version) seems to be effective. Also the use of anti static rec...
Does the first reflection point actually matter??
My speakers sound just fine, at least to me in my room. No acoustic treatments whatsoever. The room is furnished with a mix or balance of reflective and absorbing materials. I just turn the system on and enjoy my music. I'm not fussing over this s...
Bass Issues
It’s the sub that’s boomy and most likely not the speakers. Still don’t understand why people use subs in a stereo 2 channel set up. Maybe in a home theater, but no way would I consider one in my 2 channel dedicated set up. My tannoys produce plen...
Any one has experience with Sugden Integrated?
Yup! Great match, tannoys & sugden. I think you too will love the combo. There is just something so right about the sound. I run the a21se to drive my eatons, and they sound dreamy....pair it with a nice tubed phono preamp and you will forever...
Sugden a21 question....
Sugden a21se here, 30 watts into 8 ohms, 40 into 4 ohms. Driving my 89 - 90 db tannoys just fine. I am seemingly never at a deficit when it comes to volume. The tannoys however sound great even at lower volume, so I don't find the need to play the...
Soundstage gone
I'm not buying the align to cantilever/stylus jazz. If it is crooked, not saying his is, then it should have been discovered when new and promptly returned. Most every alignment I've seen suggests aligning the body of the cartridge to the grid lin...
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
Trentmemphis, that response was not directed at you, should have been more clear. The quote was from someone further back in this series of posts that said to stay away from class A of 30 watts or more....which to me has no validity...
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
"I would not recommend any amp with <30watts in pure class A.".....why?? Sugden has been building the A21 for like 40 something years! If you have doubts about the quality, then I’d advise you to read all the positive reviews on the A21 SE sign...
Where do you buy your CDs these days?
Thrift stores....today I picked up 3 sealed CD's, they charged me a buck!
