Buying used: how old is too old?
I've bought many speakers 10, 20, even 30 years old.  I've not had issues with any of them.Don't know if they degraded in sound over the years, though, as I don't have a new pair to compare them to.  As long as they weren't abused and the drivers ...
Cary SLP-98 tape out question
Yep.  Zero power to the Cary.  My DAC and phono pre plays through it without it being powered on.Up until I discovered this, I always had the pre turned on thinking it had to be.  Now, I'm not sure the other preamps I've had also didn't work this ...
Class D for a Tube Lover
As audiophiles I think we overthink things sometimes.  At least I do.I bought a window AC.
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
My only experience with Pass gear are the Aleph 3 and Aleph 2's I had many years ago. IMO, both were great sounding and when I decided to downsize I preferred the VTL MB125 just a bit more than the Aleph 2's I had at the same time. The Aleph 3 I so...
Can a speaker just die?
Just tried in different rig and it worked.  Brought back to main rig and zero sound.I thought WTF!For whatever reason, the spade wasn't making a connection.  Moved it around a few times and now I have sound.Weird.
Why are equipment racks so expensive?
lalitk - I didn't realize my post was a rant.  Good to know.mingles - That's a great looking rack!I'm not willing to A/B an audio rack to see if I can hear any difference in the sound between different rack systems.  I figure as long as it's solid...
Why are equipment racks so expensive?
I tried making a stand out of Lack tables back when that was the inexpensive craze.I bought five or six tables, drew up my diagram, marked the legs and proceeded to cut.  Then I found out the legs were hollow.  Nothing I read back then indicated t...
Speaker repair...is it easy?
Thanks, everyone.  I think I will send the driver to a professional for repair since I'm not sure I can even get a replacement speaker for the Dunlavys should I screw the pooch on this repair attempt. The next logical question:  Who should I send i...
Speaker repair...is it easy?
Thank you.My concern was I've read something years ago that said if you don't get the glue just right the piston action of the cone would be compromised. That kind of stuck with me for some reason.Cheers, and stay safe.Mamoru
At This Time Can We Recreate Full Range Live Music In The Home?
No be my answer.  No friggin' way to be exact. The real question is who would even want to create a live band in their listening room?  Even a simple acoustic guitar played eight fert away is loud.  I want something that sounds good to my ears in m...
Analogue Productions announces May 21st release of ultimate Kind Of Blue LP
I don't know why people keep rebuying KOB in every new and improved format.  Count me out.  I've already got far too many copies (yeah, I know.  I was one of those who kept rebuying.)The tapes are 60+ years old.  I can't imagine it hasn't degraded...
When did you most enjoy the music?
I think nostalgia and fond memories of friends and girlfriends adds to the recollection of just how much we enjoyed our music of our youth.  Just music with no concern for how it was delivered to us.Yep.  I get it.My favorite sound of any stereo I...

If high end audio was $10 and match box sized
As long as there was imaging, like listening through a two channel speaker system, I'd be all over the $10 device.
