Looking for my Final Pair!!
.I have done that experiment with all of the speakers I’ve owned in my current home.  I have always preferred full range on mains and sub adjusted accordingly by ear 👂. With REL I have a wonderful blending which delivers deep taught bass.@dave_...
Need help with a 6AS7 Headphone Amp
The way i implemented this circuit is that i have a long wire that goes from part a to part b to part c to part d .... to part z and back to part a (in a circle) is that ok?Its not the best... Read what I wrote earlier about this. That bit about...
Need help with a 6AS7 Headphone Amp
If you are using an AC filament supply, you might want to bias it at about 60-70 volts above ground so it can't cause secondary emission. If the filament supply is grounded and AC, hum seems pretty likely. You could also be dealing with a ground lo...
Class D for a Tube Lover
While class D may give a clear very low distortion sound, tubes would always add a notable (for me) distortion that ruins class D clean sound. I prefer to use either pure tube setting or pure SS setting as I enjoy both kinds of sounds. Mixing t...
Looking for my Final Pair!!
Again, Raul is using an Appeal to Authority logical fallacy, and again fails to explain why this relates to the woofer of the Cornwall in particular. Both quotes don't really say anything about this particular driver. Its well-known that crossover...
Looking for my Final Pair!!
"" Practical example s of Intermodulation Distortion (IMD) measurements Intermodulation distortion can also be used effectively to evaluate crossover designs. If a transducer is excited with a fixed low frequency test tone, for example near resona...
QUESTION about Installing "Matched" Tubes
Does that not indicate working tubes to begin with?Of course! But that is very different from saying that they won't arc right after shipping. Its like I said- if you make it two weeks after installation and you don't have a failure you'll proba...
Broken ground phono connection
You could replace the ground post with a binding post easily enough.
QUESTION about Installing "Matched" Tubes
The burning smell is likely either a cathode or screen resistor.I suspect this may not be the amp's fault- the tube itself might have simply arced. They are most likely to do that right after shipping. It does not matter that the tube is brand-new...

Vfet / SIT Amplifiers
What the VFETs have going for them is two things. The first is that its possible using them to design an amplifier that will make the lower ordered harmonics (2nd or 3rd) as the primary distortion component, in enough amplitude to mask the higher ...
QUESTION about Installing "Matched" Tubes
I go with the transconductance value if I can. Plate current works too but IME is less accurate. You'll have to bias the tubes up anyway, but if they all show the same transconductance values the bias setting will be nearly the same on all of them....
Looking for my Final Pair!!
Sorry...VK80i is going back!Does it do this with nothing at all tied to its input? It might not be a malfunction so much as a ground loop or the like.
3D lifelike sound and impeccable measurements - mutually exclusive???
Measurements all aim at laboratory standards, royally ignoring the requirements of psychoacoustics. That is, we do not measure sound quality as perceived by the human brain. We measure reliability.I'm going to contest this. The measurements aren...
Vfet / SIT Amplifiers
Still better than almost anything on the market today, though.Ha! Not buying that for a second. Not saying its not nice though.
