Microphonic feedback?
If you tap on the amp’s tubes, does it send an impulse thru the speakers?@birdfan  You didn't answer his question! To get feedback due to microphonics the tubes would have to be pretty bad. Just tap on them as cleeds asked- you'll find which are b...

You can argue about science but it is just thoughts in your head. What is real, is what we hear. Expectation bias is also very real. Perhaps have doing the destatic thing, measure what it does? You'd need a CD with test signals on it.
SOTA NOVA, HR-X VPI, Technics 1200G recommendations?
@mijostyn  You'll want to be careful using the vacuum system! I had a Sota Cosmos some years back that damaged the LP surface held against the platter pad. Dusting both sides before playing didn't fix it. Later, Sota changed the surface of the pla...

I wasn’t so much worried about the delay but the stress of constant starting/stopping on the motor.Doan worry aboutit. There’s no problem at all in this regard- we’d know about it by now; Technics motors have been running fine for decades. The real ...
Low power amps and speaker damage?
Solid state amps, if underpowered, will generate large amounts of higher ordered harmonics when overloaded, which the crossover cannot keep out of the tweeter. So the tweeter fails as its only able to handle a few watts.Tube amps generate less hig...

but my copy of Canto General sounds weak on the bottomHeck, that recording can shake walls! The bass drum used was the largest in the state.

My aversion to direct drive turntables comes from pretty extensive listening tests back in the late 70's early 80's. The universal opinion was that direct drive turntables sounded inferior to the best belt drive turntables. There were various t...
Nearfield Acoustics Pipedreams
I'm trying to set up a pair of pipedreams with their subwoofers, but I can find no documentation online about them, so finding an adequate amp for them is very hard. IIRC, the subs are built to be operating below their resonance, so the crossove...

You make wonderful amps but clearly this person is starting out and can’t afford them, not my Julius Futterman OTL3s. I began by building my own Dyna 70 when I was 14 years old and it kept me quite happy from 1968 through 1980, when I moved up t...

I don’t see much point in interacting in this kind of debate if the mods are going to delete/ban people for having a different opinion. @dougeyjones  Its not the difference of opinion that got your posts removed, it was that you violated a forum ...

Any vintage equipment like the Dyna stuff should have their power supplies rebuilt. The original filter caps in most of the tube stuff is all bad now- and if you run equipment like that without servicing it out you run the risk of destroying the p...
Is D for Dry? Class D...
There’s a reason basically no music is mastered using tube equipment, there’d be no way to ensure a consistent experience across platforms. This statement is false. Pick up a copy of Tape Op magazine. Tube mics, tube mic preamps, tube compressors...
Tubes for Magnepan’s.
key point is that well built ss amps can double power output into 4 ohms versus their basic 8 ohm load rating... tube amps cannot do this and can struggle to deliver even the same power in 4 ohms versus 8...Doubling power is not the same as that a...

I think there is significance in Alberto of AGD being Italian. He surely has special sensibilities regarding a highly attuned musicality. From what I've seen, its more about how little distortion the amp makes.
Class D amps that are superior to all or most?
@coltrane1 I've explained earlier on this thread why class D has opportunity to do better than class A- and that has to do with how feedback is applied. My comments on this are near the bottom of the first page of this thread. Keep in mind my comp...
