Genalex GL GZ-34 Rectifier...Did I just get a bad one? Five months seems
Trelja. Thanks for the encouragement.  I still think the cryo treatment is the main problem. It may be fine for the other tubes. But the different materials expand & contract at different rates,. This may work in tubes which aren't pushed as h...

Ralph. It would make me feel better if you didn't know what you are talking about. But I know you do.. I have thought about keeping a bunch of rectifiers around. I am running through 93.5 db speakers but I am running it somewhat hard. I think my n...

Wolf. (I might be imagining the differences, as audio geeks do imagine things at times). I’ve never done such a thing. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.Sorry. I just could stop myself from doing that.

TreljaIt was not a NOS but a new production Genalex GL. HifimanI bought the GL with a quad of 6p3se/6n3ce from Cryoset. First time I’ve dealt with him but his service was outstanding. And he was very friendly. I didn’t name the vendor because I di...

I'm late to this thread but hopefully helpful. I am a builder with 50 yrs experience. 2x4's are your friend. They are plentiful and cheap. I reinforced my floor where the stereo system sits. Speakers weigh 135 lbs a piece. Turntable weighs over 10...

ChaksterWhy use a SUT? Doesn’t yours have the loading plug & switching for LOMC? I saw that Joe is building the Mk2 version rather than the Mk4 which is what I have. But I’m not sure of the features on it. I could tell that he (Joe) is very mu...

@chakster The JLTi is a great bang for buck phono stage. I've had it for 8 yrs or so and have never felt the need to upgrade. FWIW, they are still available though they are now made by Joe Rassmussen in Australia. He was Allan Wrights partner, ass...

@atmasphereThanks for the explanation. I have read about stability of the phono preamp but did not understand what I read. You made it clear. I ran my LOMC Benz without loading. I thought  it was due to cartridge design. But IIUC, it indicates a s...

Chakster, I can only tell you what I heard. I was happy with 100 ohm loading. But since the recommendation was higher than 100, I tried the 470. My post above notes my observation

Thaluza & racedoc. Thanks for verifying my observations. I haven't played around extensively with the loading. And I only have 100 & 470 ohm plugs at the time. I had more but apparently I sold them with the SUT which I sold several years a...

One month later & I'm still enjoying the 4D. Playing with the loading now. 100 was good. 470 opens it up with more air. But its too disperse. IOW, sound stage is without good focus on some albums. Guess I need some resisters to make some loadi...
Switch preamp?
notesaddict. Glad I could help.  It sounds like Don is quite backed up. Did he offer you an audition period? From my remembrance he uses top quality parts in his amps and preamps. I probably should have bought one of his preamps last year when I t...
Switch preamp?
notesaddict  I am happy with the sound but ...Sounds like audiophilosis. I have it too. My system sounds better now than ever before. Yet I keep looking at tonearms and lately, tube  amps. Before that tube preamps. I can give good reasons for...
stereo receiver recommendations
Shoff do not be afraid of the Luxman R-117 because it is not new technology.  Do some research and read the reviews.  This is one of the best receivers of all time! Willand I definitely would say the R-117 is legendary. I had the Luxman R-1...
