What are the advantages to a Class A amp & what are the trade offs?
@bdp24 I learned long ago that the low powered amps sound better to me. I've had amps for 35wpc to 250 wpc. The 35wpc sounds best in my system. Unless one is pushing an 84db speaker load, high wattage is not needed. Even then, the low power may wo...
What are the advantages to a Class A amp & what are the trade offs?
Thanks guys. I knew about the heat and power demands. Wasn't sure what sonic advantages it might have. There is a Canary M70 which has drawn my attention. Its in the power range which I have found to work well with my speakers. Its close to my bud...
What equipment have you bought this year so far ?
In the past year, I've boughtZyx 4D cartridge (replaced Benz Ebony L) very nice2 Sumiko S-10 subwoofers (Rel S-5 clones) These made a B-I-G-G-G difference in my 5000+ cu ft roomConrad Johnson CT5 Preamp           WOW!!!!Up next? Power conditioning
Suggestions for my next upgrade
I agree with jperry. However I am a low power tube fan. 15wpc may not be enough but that depends on your room. But the only speakers that will work with the Quads are the Paradigm (93db). If you want a good tube amp which is a good all around perf...

Will a Conrad Johnson fan like Modwright LS 36.5
Well, ain't this a hoot? I was searching for info on Teflon cap break in and ran across this 10 yr old thread that I started. More interesting is that I just installed a CJ CT5 in my system. I found that it opened up as I played the 1st CD. I susp...
What is a lowball offer? How low is low?
@larry5729I suspected that was the case. I had never seen it done by my parents. I've learned to haggle because that is what is generally expected anymore
What is a lowball offer? How low is low?
@mr_m Yes I read the last sentence. I wholeheartedly agree that respect goes a long way. However, I see respect as what you do as much as what you say. IE, if I am having a pleasant conversation with  a gentleman who is speaking with a great amoun...
What is a lowball offer? How low is low?
@jburidan   Used gear should be priced about fifty percent of new. If you offer less than fifty percent that's prolly a lowball. This has been my understanding. However, I think most people anticipate they will be offered less and therefore ask...
What is a lowball offer? How low is low?
@mr_m. Its not a matter of repercussion to me. Its a matter of decorum.
What is a lowball offer? How low is low?
Good responses and helpful to someone like me who really doesn't care to do the proverbial dance (dickering) without looking the seller in the eye. Quite honestly, it took me a long time to become comfortable with the process of "bargaining".I lea...
Conrad Johnson CT5 , 16LS or Herron Audio VTSP- 3A (r03)?
Interesting silence and maybe the reason I could find nothing in a search. Is it that the CJ & Herron are so dissimilar that you either like one or the other?
I Recapped my Conrad Johnson PFR. Wow! Some of the best $$$ I've spent
@bdp24    In my case I wasn't try to modify but  trying to save a good sounding preamp which has run its lifetime on the caps. My tech (Bill Watkins jr) just uses these caps because they are good...at least that's my understanding.Still, I underst...
To Equi-Core or Not to Equi-Core? That is the question!
@lak . Thanks for the info. I previously read some threads about Perfect Path TC and the Omega E mat . The question I came upon is if those are the same or similar to the Bybee Qse which are less expensive. Whatever the case, I suspect I still n...
To Equi-Core or Not to Equi-Core? That is the question!
@erik_squires  Thanks for the links. I've been interested in making 2 zones but I figured I'd need to run another dedicated circuit. I'll check out the links. Hey, I may save some $$$ too.@ronrags  Thanks for sharing your experience with the EC 1800.
