The gain is adjustable in eight steps, with up to 75dB of gain at the maximum setting. Nine different cartridge loadings are provided. http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/tas-196-aesthetix-rhea-signature-phonostage-1/I doubt you need of a...
Looking to upgrade a Dynavector 20x2L on a Scoutmaster Signature
@turntablemat The Benz gets a lot of detail but is also more set-up sensitive compared to other cartridges   I'm curious what you find more set up sensitive about the Benz? Not meant as a challenge. Just curious
Looking to upgrade a Dynavector 20x2L on a Scoutmaster Signature
@darcraverI had the Scoutmaster Sig with the 20XL and upgraded to the Benz Ebony L (1 step down from LP). It left the poor 20XL in the dust. Don't get me wrong. The 20 is a good cart for the $$$ but really no comparison to the Ebony L., much less ...
Any of you experiment with optimal VTA for Benz Micro Cartridges
@profAtmasphere gave an informative post in another thread concerning cartridge loading. I always thought loading was necessitated by the cartridge design. But this is not the case according to atmasphere. It is the stability of the phono preamp w...
Any of you experiment with optimal VTA for Benz Micro Cartridges
@prof You have a nice vinyl  playback system. I had the Ebony L for quite a few years and it is a fine performer. One thing I'd suggest is that you load the cartridge at 47k which is the default setting for moving magnet cartridges. I ran mine at ...
Is powerfull Amps only for low sensitivity speakes?
I can only give you my experience which is a reflection of what I believe Koost is saying. In short its about synergy. IME, my low powered systems have sounded better. IE, I had a Conrad Johnson MF2500A (250wpc) paired with a CJ PFR preamp. It soun...
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
@kosst Since you seem to like taking to people who know better than you to task, Not much I can say to someone who has judged a person's abilities or knowledge without even knowing him. If he does that with people, Imagine the judgement he will...
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
@willemj Its obvious that you dislike tubes. That's fine.  Just as obvious is your lack of experience and knowledge of them. The blanket statements below are wrong. Lets put them to rest The disadvantages of tubes are clear:Not to tube users. Man...
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
@lowoverdrive. I kinda figured you knew an Mp3 from Flac, wav, etc since you are running linux. I'd guess your problem is the HT receiver. They usually put all their marbles in the pursuit of video which calls mostly for a narrow range of midrange...
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
@lowoverdriveThe one thing I have not seen addressed is what type media you are using? If you are streaming, what are you streaming? Mp3,? Flac? other lossless ? If you are streaming Mp3, there is much of your trouble. I only ask because I have be...
Amps or Speakers which one to upgrade next
@tomstruck I looking for better transparency better bass control and little more power If you get new speakers, they will be the key to how much power you need. The best amps I've had were 45wpc and now 35wpc. I've had 200wpc & 250wpc. Neit...
Impressions of the Re-issued Genalex Gold Lion U77/GZ34 Rectifier Tube
@viridian I haven't done the diode mod. Bob said I didn't really need it.  I got the Weber Copper cap SS rectifier. It stayed in about 1 1/2 hrs before I just couldn't stand it anymore. Terrible in my system
Impressions of the Re-issued Genalex Gold Lion U77/GZ34 Rectifier Tube
@jetter I have run the the Gold Lion KT66's which are very good. Seems like all the GL power tubes are very good.
Impressions of the Re-issued Genalex Gold Lion U77/GZ34 Rectifier Tube
@viridian  @ jetterI intend on springing for a NOS Mullard. I know the metal base and fat base are probably more than I want to pay. I know there are different factories in Great Britain. Is there a particular one to look for? Blackburn? Thanks
Genalex GL GZ-34 Rectifier...Did I just get a bad one? Five months seems
@wolf_garcia Yeah, Me too. But I can't imagine a NOS Mullard is going to  beat the Genalex by very much in sound quality. It is fabulous. This one isn't cryoed. Maybe it will last longer. But I'll probably try a Mullard NOS. Look at it this way Wo...
