Why Is Hi Fi Gear So Darn Expensive?
@thyname  The beauty of simplicity. Excellent @ghdprentice  Many years back on Audio Asylum, there was a thread about the cars audiophiles drive. Most were transportation and little more. None were new. @gdnrbob  Good post.  I always came in ...
Can anyone recommend someone who recap crossovers
I have these guys bookmarked. And I remember someone advertising for custom crossover &  repair but I cannot find that. I believe it was at USAM (Mart) Audio Exchange, LLC HOURS OF OPERATION: Tuesday-Friday, 10am-8pm, Saturday, 12-5pm Phone: ...
Has Anyone Tried Nobsound Springs Or Other Isolation Devices Below REL Subwoofers?
Rels are not designed to be isolated. They are meant to be integrated. This is on the Rel site. It goes against my thinking but they sound good and integrate very easily.
How old is too old (for SS gear)?
IME. 15-20 years. Caps start to dry up. They can be replaced if you know what you are doing. Living in fly over country, it is hard to find techs which will work on "stereo" equipment. We live in a throw away society now. most buy les expensive ge...
Top Songs You Can Sing Along with When Highly Intoxicated (or Other Compromised State)
Didn't need to be drunk but this one came easily when I was Primed up. Funny thing, I never liked country in the 70's but I had this album
Does remote control degrade the sound of tube preamps?
It would not surprise me if it remotes do alter the sound. But IMO the convenience outweighs the tiny fraction which it may cause. I might think different at 35 yrs old. But at 71, I won't buy a preamp without remote. Besides that is that Conrad J...
Buying from Canada!
I bought a used amp from Canada in 2019 (?) from a private individual. I got an $84 customs charge. $69 of that was to UPS for brokerage fees. Then afterwards, I got slapped with a Use Tax from the state of TN which was another $260. I now try to ...
Aurender N100 or X100?
@cleeds  & @rockrider  Thank you for your clarifications
Aurender N100 or X100?
@cleeds Its biggest problem was that even a momentary power outage caused major problems. Uh Oh!! One of the problems in the mountains is that the power sometimes cuts our and then back on, just enough to cause the need to reset all the clock...
Cable Quality vs Customer Service
@guakus  I think you may have misunderstood my post. I was not trying to downplay your incident at all. I was just trying to say that poor customer service is everywhere and is hitting everyone now
Aurender N100 or X100?
@mahler123  I have looked at the Melco which got the S'phile A+ rating and have wondered why it does not seem to be as popular as the aurender despite its lower price (I think). Can you or  @ghdprentice give an opinion why that is? Is the softwar...
Perimeter Ring Clamps: Yay?, Nay?, Sources??
+1 @lewm . I'd also add, the plain inconvenience of it. Vinyl is enough work as it is. Plus I am skeptical of the changes being better. The biggest is the stylus danger IMO. Might be alright with a MM which has a replaceable stylus. But a high $$$...
New Pressing Plant in MN
First the muscle cars come back. Now a vinyl resurgence. What next? Interesting times. Maybe too interesting.
New Pressing Plant in MN
This is from their website. Not sure what to make of it as far as pops and clicks being normal. Test Pressings Test pressings are only used to catch any possible defects during the plating process. You should listen for things like skips, pops...
Concerning high end audio names in new cars
I agree with @spenav as far as expectations. My wife has an Avalon with JBL system which I like for the car use. The biggest reason is that it is no louder in the back seat than the front. IOW very even volume. And tone was good for a car. It was ...
