I CONFESS: I Need Additional Chemical Input
I always appreciate people who have enough curiosity to try things. I'd have chosen Graphene coating, but then too you had the ceramic and the curiosity at the same time so bravo to you for the effort. I don't have any ceramic or graphene yet but ...
How did you get started in this hobby
Hobby!!!???? For me this isn't a hobby. Its part of my life. I can't remember when I didn't love music. I spent my allowance $$$ on 45's when I was 8-9 yrs old. In my 20's we moved around a lot and the 1st thing to go into the P/U truck was my ste...
Turn down the Volume!
I don’t know what decibel I listen but I know a lot of HiFi stores turned me off because they played the music  too loud IMO. I guess they were trying to impress me.  Yet I generally play it louder than the casual listener. Often I don’t really th...
Analog vs. digital
As usual a +1 @ghdprentice I came back to vinyl about 20 yrs ago and was surprised how close a <$1K TT and <$1K phono preamp came to my digital and often bested it. I've moved up quite a bit since then and actually my vinyl rig is much more ...
Mcintosh MC275 alternatives?
Don Sachs Kootenay 120. It is a highly upgraded Bob Latino ST-120 with Dual regulated power supplies and high quality capacitors, resistors, etc. It is rated at 65wpc with KT88’s or 6550. I’m not sure how it might compare to the Mac. but it is as ...
low bass response
Subwoofer is needed. I have a room just a bit bigger and the same problem. Even though my speakers are rated at 20 - 20k they don't have low bass. One sub was a tease. Two Rel S5 did the job  Sounds great now. BTW I tried all the above fixes. Th...
Solar-powered battery running my system
I'd love to hear a your impressions  in 6 months or so. And as has been pointed out, your solar power is no cleaner than the inverter makes it. Plus you are off the grid and so you won't have the next door neighbors grunge in your electricity as l...
DAC diminishing returns
With any luck the new Dac may push the rest of the system to it’s limits. Then you realize how much really like the upgrade. but soon ya just want more. Then you upgrade, buy a sub, cables then upgrade xyz. So you tell me. Does the significantly...
What cable companies make the best cables and sell them directly?
Audio Envy, Morrow Audio are two that I've been interested along with the Silversmith. They  have good reputations signal cable too. Anyone remember Homegrown Cables or Pure Note?
Subwoofer with Floorstanding Speakers?
Bass is the backbone upon which the rest of the music rides on. Up until the mid 80’s subs weren’t needed. Then the Mfgs etc started pushing midrange because it has the majority of the music.R&Rollers weren’t considered in this because classic...
To Blind Test, or Not To Blind Test, That Is The Question
Blind testing isn’t so much about the differences in the equipment as much as it is a test about the listener.  Moreover, just because a listener is able to perceive a difference between Product A and Product B, you can only talk about the listen...
To Blind Test, or Not To Blind Test, That Is The Question
+1 @thyname  Enjoy your tests.
Room Dust and Records
Keep a carbon fiber brush by the TT and brush before every play. Yeah, I keep my inner sleeves facing up in the cover which has a side opening. Somehow dust still finds its way. You cannot get rid of dust. Oh, also keep  a Zerostat gun by TT also
Integrated amps for lean speakers
@hheedah  Rel recommends putting sub in the corner and slowly pulling it out to find its best position. It will give you more bass in the corner. But as I said, with the Rel Storm 3 I could not get enough bass and I had it turned to max. But ever...
Integrated amps for lean speakers
@erik_squires @hilde45  As I said earlier, the T5  sub is not big enough. I have a room the same size  which my floorstanders & a Rel Storm 3 with a little more power and 10 in. woofer  would not output enough bass. The T5 has 125 watts with ...
