Looking for Wagner recommendations What absolute drivel. It sounds to me like you have never listened to a piece by Wagner, nor even browsed a libretto.Like all great artists through the ages, Wagner’s music came about through a love of music and a drive to create. Far from being i...
Dream/upgrade list: rogue ares A good phono stage might well help with that too, as the AT-120Eb shouldn’t sound particularly bright. Or it could be a set-up related issue.
Dream/upgrade list: rogue ares I don't know the U-Turn, but in good shape (referring mainly to the condition of its springs) your PL-600 is an excellent turntable and worthy of a much better phono stage than the Schiit Mani. In other words I see no need to give up on the Rogue...
Newb..pls help. Any other integrateds someone might suggest? I would strongly suggest a look at Yamaha's offerings. The A-S1100 is in the same price range as the Rotels you're looking at (well, it is where I live). The build quality and sound betters most eve...
I have to downsize big time, any ideas on integrated amps and smaller 3 way speakers Very sad to hear your story, but a two-year prognosis at least offers *some* hope. Even if medicine has done all it can do, spontaneous regressions/remissions do happen. They’re rare of course, but not non-existent. Either way I wish you all the v...
Thinking of a used Hegel H160 integrated – thoughts and/or alternatives? A current Accuphase model with comparable specs would better the H160, but at a very, very different price. The performance gap, however, would be quite small. The E-303X launched in 1983 and although some don’t like to believe it, things have in ...
Thinking of a used Hegel H160 integrated – thoughts and/or alternatives? The Hegel is a very competent integrated amp indeed and I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it. It's detailed, smooth, very neutral and is able to better control a speaker's bass drivers than pretty much any amp I know (excepting its larger sibl...
Cartridge Set Up Essentials Did own MINT and threw it away. Because?
Cartridge Set Up Essentials MINT Tractor and a pair of 3-4X reading glasses (to obviate the use of a lupe).
Hegel or Pathos? I've not heard your Classic Mk 3, but a T.T., an Inpol Mk 1 and a Logos. All of them really, really nice amplifiers. I found them to sound much like many of the reviews claimed: a kind of hybrid between tubes and solid state. Not as sweet as m...
Who has the Technics SL-1500c turntable? I've never heard it, but given the multitude of excellent reviews it's hard to see how you can go wrong given how you're going to use it. As a bonus it even looks a hell of a lot better than its bigger brothers.
Technics SL -1200G vs Transrotor ZET 1 Both are excellent turntables - it really just depends on whether you prefer direct drive or belt drive. My personal preference would be the ZET-1, easily, since I prefer the latter.
How to store headshell and tonearms safely Lots of different cartridge boxes to be had in the EMJ Music ebay store. I've bought three from there, all excellent, and can in particular recommend this model.

Best $250 max phono Cart I’d look at LP Gear instead and the Audio-Technica VM540ML @ $249. A fine match with the Rega arm and an altogether better cartridge than the 2M Blue in my subjective opinion. They do, however, also sell the Blue for $210. |
