Do you ever use the balance on your pre amp?
Of course I realize some parts of the soundstage will be off center. How can you expect me to not know that?? I was referring to music that should have a center image or centered soundstage like lead vocals or some acoustic bands. For those, I wil...
Do you ever use the balance on your pre amp?
Some recordings I have basically require balance adjustment. Often times the gain levels aren't matched properly. It is amazing how lax some recording engineers can be. Oh well, at least I can fix it myself.Arthur
does anyone have experience with mbl and lector ?
I am a little familiar with the 1431, hearing it in an all MBL system a couple weeks ago. The system's sound was highly detailed and moderately forward so I am not sure it will do what you seek. The Lector on the other hand, may be just the ticket...
Clipping and the pre amp...
The "amplifier stage" is your amp, preamp, and source put together. The more gain your preamp contributes, the less your amp does for the same volume level. So if you turn the gain up on your preamp, the amps won't clip till further up the volume ...
JM Lab: Utopia Diva Be, 937 Be or new 1027 Be?
To be honest, these speakers would like more than 25W. They will play fine but the bass will not really be developed until you get around 60W. They have tight bass that remains restrained until you get some power going. Now if you don't care about...
Rega Saturn and Apollo-How good are they??
I have heard the Apollo in various systems, as well as Naim players. The Apollo is great - lots of body, very good layering of the soundstage, kind of "intense" sounding which some people will love and some systems will hate. It is all about syner...
Cleveland, OH
Thanks Brownsanandy for the Donbetteraudio tip. I will check them out this week while I am visiting my brother.Todd - if you can't figure out a McIntosh system, it will be very hard for you to help anyone! Good luck though.Arthur
Can any player challenge Audio Aero Prestige SE ?
My head is spinning too. This is all so corny after a while, isn't it? :) But it is entertaining.Arthur
"Budget" preamp choices.
I would suggest the Classe CP50. A passive with a Pass amp may not be a great idea - for the same reason a tube pre may not be - but you can try it if you want. The best thing is for you to experiment as you cannot get a better answer here. good l...
Lavardin IT or Jadis DA50 Signature?
Ok, if you want me to pick both speaker and amp, then here goes. I am assuming your room is 16-22 m2 and neutral. For the speakers, I would go with Apertura Thema. Their tonal color is the most detailed I have ever heard and they have microdynamics...
Speaker disappearing act?
I think it all boils down to personal taste. Everything in life is a compromise and when there is something good, there is something bad that comes along with it. If the bad is one of your personal favorites, then the good may not be worth it to y...
Thinking about a C45 mac for my modded HCA2
All the recent McIntosh preamps are really sweet and so nice and easy to use. The volume control alone is orgasmic and their sound is so rich it sounds truly natural. Great choice for a preamp and I am sure you know how famous McIntosh tuners are....
Lavardin IT or Jadis DA50 Signature?
With these amps, I would suggest you decide what speakers you will have first. This will avoid making a mistake as these two amps will not like the same speakers. Speaker selection should be heavily influenced by the room dimensions and materials....
Best bookshelf speakers for McIntosh MC275 amp?
Unfortunately or luckily, there is no "best" anything. It's all relative. You don't say if your budget is for new or used. If used, I would suggest the Focal (JM Lab) Micro Utopia Be. Stunning speakers with surprising bass and small size. If new, I...
Best way to clean CD player lens?
Hi JohnI had the same thought the other day. However my conclusion was the same as Sean's: if it ain't broke, why fix it? I am still not sure if it's the best way but this is what I am sticking to for now. I haven't taken my C333ES apart before bu...
