Great Vintage Amps-which one for you?
The McIntosh MC2125, MC240/MC40, and MA6200. Awesome pieces.
mcintosh mc 202 VS. McCormack dna 225
Another note, pairing McIntosh preamp and amp will add to the beautiful music aspect. I had a CJ PV10 preamp that did not sound as good as my McIntosh C712 (predecessor to the C15) with my McIntosh amp. It was probably a mismatch because the PV10 ...
mcintosh mc 202 VS. McCormack dna 225
It depends on the type of sound you like. I know the Mccormack 0.5 well and like my little Mc 7100 better. I like the liquid, warm, emotional, and involving sound I get from my McIntosh. The Mccormack could not deliver these qualities but did have...
Integrated amp & player for B&W 804, pls
I used to own some N804s for a little while. I felt they were too bright with Krells and found McIntosh to be majestic and beautiful with them. Mc is excellent at controlling brightness. The MC6500 has effortless liquidity and warmth with a remark...
The new Mcintosh MC 402
Hassel: I think it is like the different-focus effect found with 3D glasses - just applied to your ears instead. BTW, I hear this same thing on other amps besides McIntoshes. Mcs have meters so you can see it as well as hear it for solid confirmat...
The new Mcintosh MC 402
Getting back to the unequal meters bit, I have for several years noticed that on my tape deck (yes, I still have one ;) the left channel meter is a little higher than the right 85% of the time. On the Mc, the left was higher 85% of the time too. I...
How do I reduce the overall gain in my preamp ?
This is tedious unless you really know what you are doing. I would not attempt if you are not familiar with electronics. The circuit is "tuned" for all the parameters involved - you change one, you change everything. Just turn down the volume or g...
High value floorstanders around $1k used
I third the Paradigm Reference Studio 100.2s. I own them and just adore them. I auditioned in my house the Triangle Celius and was happy to get back to my Paradigms. You are right, the Triangles are simply weak in the bass. Also the Paradigms are ...
Best integrated amp with phono and pre out?
The McIntosh integrateds can do all you mentioned and have amp-in too in case you would ever need it. They sound incredible but are pricey. The Classe integrateds also have phono (at least optional) and pre-out and sound very good.
Question about tube friendly speakers...
Marakanetz is absolutely correct IMO. I ditto everything he says. I have done a ton of research lately about this (qualitative as well as quantitative) since deciding to get a tube setup and your question requires more infomation about the amp to ...
Multi Disk CD Players?
The Rotel changers are quite nice, the Sony ES models that rank Stereophile Class A (555 and 333) are even better, and if you really want a great one, the McIntosh MC205 is knockout in all regards. I read a lot about CAL changers but the consensus...
Simple "Q factor" explanation
I will try to fill in the gaps. Q has to do with filtering for the crossover points. The Q equation has two forms: Q=sqrt(2)/(4-K) where K is the passband gain. The second is Q=fo/BW where fo is the crossover frequency and BW is the bandwidth. For...
Am I underpowering my Magnepan 3.6's?
Hey - are you checking your dB listening level with a meter? I thought I listened in the 90dB range but then once I got a meter, I was shocked to find out that it was more in the 102dB range! If you are in the same case as me, you may indeed need ...
Mcintosh MA6900 compared to Mcintosh separates?
This is an interesting question. As far as flexibility, it is a moot point as others said above. As far as sound quality difference, I can relate to this first hand although with different models. A friend of mine has an MA6400 integrated from a fe...
My 2ch front end. first quality system
Ahhh, yes. The McIntosh love affair. It happened to me as well and I have to say I have not regretted one minute of it and am actually very thankful for it. I continue to audition anything and everything but I always leave the dealer happy to come...
