Aragon 4004 mk2 vs Adcom 555 mk2
Yep, anything in excess is bad, feedback included. Yet, I don't understand the hang up that audiophiles have with feedback. When I say feedback, I mean GLOBAL feedback. It has a zillion advantages that any engineer can name off for you because in ...
Aragon 4004 mk2 vs Adcom 555 mk2
Two things:1. The feedback loop would not use a pot if the design is worth anything as the guy suggested. The switch, as a designers opinion, switches high-quality resistors in and out - doesn't use a pot so that argument is not worth reading. He ...
Aragon 4004 mk2 vs Adcom 555 mk2
I have used amps with feedback switches too (like the Unison Simply 2 and 4 tube integrateds) and I didn't find the soundstage "clouds" up really when i go to high feedback. I would say that it is more of softer and slower sound instead but I coul...
Heard about the New 2003 Madrigal Warranty?
The archives should have the concrete info already. there was a thread a month ago or so about the termination of warranty transfers but I couldn't find it just now. Perhaps others will.
McIntosh MVP841 Transport? Who makes it?
Ditto Mc2000. If you get the right guys at McIntosh, they will tell you anything and everything. I have chatted on the phone with them on several occasions. Arthur
Good sounding carrousel cd player??
I third the Sony 555ES. I currently have a Sony CA80ES 5 disc carousel which is very good for the price. I bought it new 3 years ago and it has NEVER had any issues whatsoever. I really enjoy it. Sony makes a good product IMO and they have the eco...
Melos SHA-1 Gold vs McIntosh C2200 sound quality?
The Mc2200 would probably cure your brightness problem. In my experience, cables can't make big changes in your system's sound - you will need to change components for that. I have read a few times about the 777es as being on the bright side too b...
Aragon 4004 mk2 vs Adcom 555 mk2
Gmood1 - Ok, here is another argument for you - LOL! ;)I read a McIntosh white paper on the power guards and the distortion sensing circuit has a super high input impedance (order of 1 Gohm) which effectively takes it out of the circuit. Very clev...
Capacitors: Who is Right? What ages them faster?
Ah, perhaps Sean meant 130*F... I had long forgotten about Fahrenheit so I didn't think of it till now. Otherwise, see my reply above.
Capacitors: Who is Right? What ages them faster?
Sean - 130* at the heatsink is WAY too high for any amp to operate. Most transistors can't operate above 120*C without burning up. Including thermal impedance effects, 130* at the heatsink means about 150*C at the junction (in a good design) which...
Is there a problem at Revel?
Isn't Revel a Harmon Intl. company too? They may be experiencing similar problems as Proceed and Mark Levinson. I think Proceed is dropped altogether at this point and ML is being "restructured." Arthur
McIntosh MCD-205 Changer?
The Jupiter is a very different sound than the 205 and I would not say the Jupiter is more musical IMO, but they were playing in different systems.... I seek out musicality above all else and agree with Pardales that the 205 is very musical indeed...
Aragon 4004 mk2 vs Adcom 555 mk2
Gmood1: Your McIntosh MC7106 did not have autoformers. Sorry to break the bad news for your argument. Also, don't forget about system synergy when you compare amps. The system you tried the component in is as critical to the sound description as t...
Capacitors: Who is Right? What ages them faster?
One of my collegues does research on capacitor reliability (for aircraft systems) and he agrees that thermal cycling is the main problem. I will ask him again now that he has had time to look more into the issue and let you know. In my experience ...
Putting a preamp on a integrated?
The MA6900 has pre-outs AND amp-in so that the preamp and amp can both be independant. This is a rare feature in integrateds (pre-out is somewhat common but amp-in is definately rare) but allows lots of flexibility if it is ever desired. Some peop...
