Power cable suggestions for Pioneer turntable

Hello all,

I'm on the hunt for a power cable for a Pioneer PLX-1000 direct drive turntable with an Ortofon 2m black cart. This setup is on the bright side so I'm seeking something neutral or towards the warm side. Budget is $400 new or used.

@ten_ton_bass I had several turntables. Always stock cord. It powers the motor. As long as the motor is working as designed you are good.
And by the way, I use Nordost and Audience power cables throughout my system where they matter - digital, preamp, amps. I’m not one who’ll tell you power cords make no difference. But where you’re looking to upgrade is equivalent of expecting your car to perform better if you’re wearing a more expensive cologne while driving it.

I put a Shunyata Diamondback Platinum power cord on my Technics SL1200G turntable.  I did it ONLY because I had the extra cable hanging around.  There is absolutely no difference in sound quality between it and the stock cord.

I also don’t think the power cord to your turntable is gonna do the trick.  Looking at your system it’s hard to see it sounding bright.  I’ve read the 2M Black can sound harsh if not set up optimally so that’s definitely something to check.  If your ‘table doesn’t have sufficient adjustments (like VTA) that might be the source of the problem.  Frankly, a $740 DJ turntable seems out of place in your system to begin with, and I’d look to upgrade that regardless.  With a $400 budget I guess you could try some tube rolling somewhere as a bandaid, but that turntable/cartridge sitch would be the first thing I’d check out.  FWIW, and best of luck.

One other thought…is the cartridge setup proper? VTA, overhang? It can make it or break it. Use a good protractor to verify your setup.
