Would anyone care to share their wilson sophia or watt puppy appointed room's dimensions? What do you consider to be to big or too small? i still beleive getting the room/speaker right is the most important thing to long term satisfaction that lasts beyound the honeymoon period. i just bought some sophia 1s for a 18x13x8 unsealed room. watt puppies were tempting but i worried the room would be too small.. |
watt/puppy 6 is a very old design with very old drivers. sophia 3 will eat it alive - not even close |
I think that all responders to speaker threads should list the dimensions of the rooms they have. i am chewing on getting some sophia 2s or 3s and see watt/puppies that might be barely affordable if i stretch. but there is no point in stretching if it results in a speaker that is too much for my 5 sided( opens into a hallway with small room on the other side) 18x13x8 room. Secondly new speakers usually create to me a need to at least change old cabling to find tune the change- maybe not doing this is a source of disappointment also. Third different people hear far differently than a lot of people realize |
thank you all i listend to the Sof3; and to my ears i still like my wwp3 more!!! why ? i am not sure; i think somthing in the mid rage (vocals ext) seem much more natural with my old WP3 thank evry one for your opinons Dan |

My room is 24' x 26'and today I decided I will get Sasha's. If all goes well, I hope to have them in the next few months.
Good answer. Sashas are incredible and can draw you deeply into the music. Congrats on your decision. |
ricred1,
Congratulations. What color did you get? |
Ricred1: Great call (easy call---cept for Dr. Green). Your going to love the Sashas in a room of your size. |

Room size for the speakers would make for a more informed discussion. If the room is smallish, the Sophia III is going to win in almost any circumstance, even against the Sasha. If the room is large enough, any recent W/P will have a room-matching advantage. But you don't get the Sophia's coherence and unified presentation until you move up to the Sasha W/P, and that's $10K USD more. |
Bjbcab,
You are correct, it's very hard pulling the trigger on such a large purchase. The problem is my ears...I've listened to many speakers over the years and I submit the Sasha's are the best that I've heard for me! Your comments,"If your experience is like mine you will find that the 8's sound more like 7's and you will still lust for the Sasha's", are so true, because that's how I felt we the Sophia 3s. I'll make the decision within the next few days. |
Ricred1,
I was wondering where you were in this process. I know how hard it can be to pull the trigger on such a large purchase. I also know how much harder it is when the item that you covet is at the top or even out of your price range. I wish you well with your quest.
I have had extensive listening sessions with w/p 7's but not direct side by side comparisons to the w/p 8. I found the w/p 8's to be smoother on the top end and a bigger bottom. I tend to listen to rock and pop recordings which are not always the best. The 8's definitely made these recordings more listenable.
I later upgraded to the the Sasha. Much better speaker. The Sasha IMO sound much more like a mini Maxx 3 than an improved w/p 8. So, in my experience, there is an improvement from the 7 to the 8's but it is more subtle. The improvements from the 8's to the Sasha, IMO, is quite significant.
Is it worth the extra money to go for the Sasha over the 8's? Only you can determine that. If your experience is like mine you will find that the 8's sound more like 7's and you will still lust for the Sasha's. :) |

Yes, I have been working with Casey. I'm really trying to figure out what's the best performance/price option between WP 8s and Sasha's. I haven't had the opportunity to listen to WP 8s; therefore I like hearing other opinions. |
I think it might be hard going from the WP bass to any Sophia!!! I picked the WP 8 over the Sophia 3 for the bigger tighter low end. I had an opportunity to buy a friends WP 7 at a great price but liked the WP8 slightly bigger bass, upper mids and highs. I thought they were the best of the three and purchased them. |
Ricred1, I compare Sophia III to the W/P8 and prefer the Sophia III.
The Sasha (which would have been W/P9) is better than the Sophia III.
If you have the means, the Sasha is the way to go. Otherwise, the Sophia III is perfectly satisfying. |
You're welcome. By the way, are you Casey's McKee's client? |

I notice that you didn't compare Sophia IIIs to Sasha's. Have you had the opportunity to compare the two? If so, what are your thoughts? |
"""04-12-12: Prdprez No question, Sophia 3, all the way.
Sophia 1 was better than W/P6 Sophia 2 was better than W/P7 Sophia 3 is better than W/P8
And, yes, I have extensive listening experience, in a variety of systems, of all of these combinations. """"" no question,
my wife is better then Prdprez my wifes friend is better than Prdprez my wifes grandma is better than Prdprez

it would be nice that "helpful" memebers of audiogon before making any bold statement would learn how to exctract personal preferences from advice. either you are salesman of new WA products (dealer) or what I stated earlier.
Prdprez, did you ever listened sophia 2 vs wp6 on clasical works or Andre Phildor percusion records? I quess not as sophia 2 sounds like someone used car handbrake. i didnt heard much diferencies in speed and lower notes tightness for example between sophia 1 and sophia2 and even when did not compared directly I hear that there is no diferencies between v2 vs v3 in that matter. |

Thanks for your response. I've listen to Sasha's several times and to my ears they are significantly better than Sophia 3s. Sasha's just do something that Sophia 3sjust can't do. I'm just trying to exhaust all less expensive options prior to getting Sasha's. My wallet just doesn't like what my ears are telling me!

Not much difference IMO between 7s and 8s. The 8s were mostly about replacing the lead damping internally to comply with EU lead free specs. However, the Sashas are significantly better. Smoother bass, the mid bass hump some say were Wilson's weakness in the WP line has been eliminated and the treble is very smooth. If you can afford the Sashas, no question. |

Lenny_zwik,
I sold my Sophia 3s with the intention of going to Sasha's. Now I'm thinking of WP8s. Have you had the opportunity to compare the WP7 or WP8 directly to Sophia 3s. It's my understanding that the Sophia 3s have a slighter better mid-range, but WP7 and WP8 do everything else better. |
I own WP7s and have listened extensively to Sophia 3s. Depending on price (all things equal), I'd go with WP7s over the 6s, much smoother treble and more bass definition and extension. If the Sophia 3s are $1500-$2K less expensive than available WP7s, I'd go in that direction. |
yes thank you ' any one else that owend both |
I have not heard either but from what I have read the Sophia 3 will have superior midrange and highend the bass may not be quite as good however.
These are general impressions I have from reading other posts and reviews. |
I wouldnt go to blind exchange, you need to comapre both in YOUR room. WP6 in corect room and right front end can sound very good, Sophia bass is much more sloooooooooooow and less tight than wp6/7/8, hight are better on sophia 3, midrange is diferent (wp6 on bad records sound agresive and nasal, sophia 3 smoother, more forgiving) hope this helps. |
