Where R U?????

All us regulars are familiar with the “Who R U” thread started by my buddy David. I met my first local audiophile friend last weekend, their aren’t many of us up here, and we have similar taste in music, and gear for that matter too! David is also ‘close’ to me(about 2-3 hour drive) other then that there is NO one, perhaps some of us are closer to each other then we realize. Of course some of us know where each other are, how ever there are many members I don’t know the location of. There are literally NO high fi dealers near me, so it is nice to see/hear a good system, set up by a fellow audiophile, my latest friend is so happy that he is not the only one in this area with this passion. So I am in the Albany, NY area, where are you folks from?
tireguy
North Kingstown, Rhode Island. I'm sure I am the only one in this state who has Avalon loudspeakers. My boat's name is Eidolon, how sad is that?
I live in The Woodlands, TX, which is 35 miles north of Houston. If you're in town, please look me up for a non-alcoholic beverage of your choice. Nothing against booze...I just don't have any because I don't like it.
Down the road in Rochester, NY.
Few people here to speak with on stereo, fewer regarding tube. Due to NY location, mostly McIntosh, always looking for good tubes. Have Klipsch Speakers. Don't know more to begin but contact me if there's interest or info needed.
Whl248
Chippewa Falls Wisconsin.
I don't anyone within driving distance has over a $300. rig. No hi-end stores,no audio friends,nothing.
HELP!!!!
Littleton Co, Just a couple miles south of Columbine, the biggest media frenzy since OJ.

Littleton is great, best place in colorado. Everything else is either too yuppy or too violent.

I think i saw a couple other colorado folk in this thread. I gotta admit, i have no Audiophile buddys xcept all you people here on the 'GON

ANyone in denver ever wanna check out gear and drink some beer feel free to let me know!
Went looking for some Marinco IEC connectors the other day - what an experience! (at the nearest Grainger : "whut's an eye-aye-say kunnecter"? Or the local "hifi store" - me: "do you carry any tube equipment?" them: "they stopped making that stuff in the 70's, why would you want that?" ;-)
getting warmer and more humid by the day...
Denver, and I have actually toured the famed Avalon factory with a friend that used to work there. Now thats some furniture that sounds great. Too bad I can't afford it.
Home of the 2003 NCAA Basketball Champs, Syracuse, NY. My system isn't that great but i'll soon be upgrading to Rogue, Jolida, and Tyler. By the way i travel to the west side of Cleveland, Oh many times a year.

I once met a man who owned a pig farm who had a beautiful home surrounded by the worst smell all day long. I asked him how he stood the constant bad odor. He took in a deep breath and responded, " Ahhhhhh, it smells like money to me."
Newtown Connecticut, with 140 acres of cow farm on two sides of my property. Sometimes you can really smell the "dairy air".
Alaskan panhandle. WE really are isolated here on an island. Thank goodness for Audiogon and mail order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
El Paso, Tx. Not the most beautiful place to live, but the weather is pretty nice year round. I like to play golf on the weekends, so I play year round. No, I don't ride my horse to work ! Things are fairly modern around here, believe it or not. So far, I'm the only die-hard audiophile I know in this neck of the woods. What few friends I have are mid-fi nuts. Even my good friend at the only high end store here has moved into the home theatre scene just to make ends meet.
Born in the heart of Bensenhurst Brooklyn and then moved to Staten Island (along with everyone else from Brooklyn)!
Sandy, Utah, 15 minutes from Snowbird and Alta (which has only 60% of normal snow fall this year). 50 degress today, and will be 50 tomorrow, but below freezing on the ski hill, even though it still lacks snow. Pray for snow.
Sballs- Haven't been through Hurly in many years, how ever the member with the moniker Winoguy17 lives there and I owe him a visit- I will keep my eye out for it.
How's the Hurley Mountain Inn doing these days :)

I grew up in Hurley... now living near Princeton NJ
Marakanetz- You just play your cards right and they make exceptions for that sort of thing ;) Until then enjoy the tunes!
Woonsocket, R.I. the smallest state of all!!!
I am the only one i know of other than my friend Dalton whome we are always competeing on whoes system is better for the buck in our area! I hope to see more locals type in! I currently have a Outlaw 950 pre-amp with a Outlaw 750 amplifier. I have a Mit Z Stabilizer for my amps, oh yea my other amp is a Nad 2 channel where the Outlaw is 5 channel, anyway my other power conditioner is a Bybee, John Curl pro A/C conditioner. My front speakers are all the same three Klipsch RC7's in maple and the rears are Klipsch RB5's in maple, four of them. All upgraded power cords and silver interconnects and speaker wire! My subwoofer is a SVS 20-39+ and wow is it awesome!!! Finally my Tv is a HD toshiba 42" projection. Almost forgot i also have a Dennon 1600 Dvd player.
So Bob is that where you got those Purist cables from? :o) Is your local friend Mark? I know he is some where in Ohio. Cheers!
I'm out in the middle of nowhere in northwest Ohio. I know one other audiophile who lives about 30 miles from here. One of my best audiophile friends lives south of Houston, Texas; I met him in the Air Force in 1973. He now has his own company and makes high-end speaker cables and interconnects. Also have a good audiophile friend down in Tampa, Florida. He has a good taste for fine audio equipment and loves Mark Levinson and Thiel.
Duluth Minnesota. I met a guy in the Minneapolis area, and wonder if anyone else is close.
Charlotte NC -- hey Bryans and South43, maybe we should get together! I've lived in Columbus, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Peoria and elsewhere. Right now, I'm enjoying it here.
Is there anyone from Heaven out there?
I wonder if the internet chat is available there;^)
The Best place in the world,Ft collins.CO,but due to the recent lay-0ff,have to move soon..hic-hic
in beautiful sylmar, ca. former home of john bedini. land of big quakes. in '94, after some serious ground rolling motion, i was going to go into the living room and protect my the nak700 and tandberg cassette decks and tt.
THEN hell broke loose and i was sure we were in for a dip in ocean water (we live maybe 25 miles inland as the gull flies). i changed my mind and priorities in a split second.
i also experienced the '71 quake close up. i'm STILL not going back to live in buffalo, ny! (west side, near the peace bridge)
dont get me wrong, i have a deep love for buffalo and niagara falls. niagara (1/4) and lancaster (1/8) drag strips were my second home.
in LA here, the proximity to hifi shops is tremendous but overshadowed imho by the used record market. this could be called record collectors heaven. great music venues too, especially for jazz. the jazz bakery, catalinas, the baked potato (former hangout for grusin, carlton, rit, harvey mason, et al). and many other great spots to see jazz, and ive seen (and missed) some of the greats.
the best jazz station in the country (arguably) is here, kkjz, formerly klon at 88.1 fm and on the net ant kkjz.org (listen on line and join, its an npr station).
i have met a couple of online acquaintances and had some good times. met some industry notables too, bedini, schifter, joe grado, arnie nudell, cary christie, sao win, and john ulrich to name some.
if id done this in buffalo, i may have met dan d'agostino who used to hang there. b+k and magnum dynalab are made there.
im a city boy at heart and have lived and done work on the farms around canton, ohio as a boy. i found that theres no substitute for hard work and that its good four your soul as is being alone in the woods and pastures.
a good number of my best friends have had life transitions or death that took them away from me. i function well as a loner but value true friendship which is quite rare these days.
well, enough for self effacement.
.......regards.....tr
Renton, Washington, at the south end of Lake Washington in the Seattle metro area.

Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
Just a 30 minute drive from Center City Philadelphia.
Bruce
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I am also looking for some local Audiophiles to hang with. It's a lot more fun sharing your upgrades and tweeks with somebody else. I wonder if the University would allow an Audio club??? We'll see :)
Hello from the frozen tundra of northern WisconsinHayward ..to be exact...little tourist town where fishing and cross-country skiing are the big draws..no other audio nuts here...I know ..I know everyone in town and they think I'm a moron for spending all my money on high end audio ...them little transistor radios sound good enough to them...I need a friend ...please?
The Big Island Of Hawaii. I know there are audiophiles here. Met one just the other day who had quad electrostats and a 400+ wpc Mcintosh? But there are no dealers on this island. well one about a 2 hour drive away that sells Klipsch but thats it. lol I wish i lived somewhere that i could walk into a store and see all my dreal gear. Oh well..
Kelly-when do you find time to work let alone listen to your system? you have more posts then most everyone and go to extreme lengths to make sure they are accurate, very honorable. I don't have that much ambition with my posts, sorry ;) I am too damn tired to that most days.
~You know who wrote it ;)
pablo,

the secret to getting "non-standard" symbols like the tilde to show up on AudiogoÑ posts is to cut and paste from a word processing system. i'm a mac user, so i'm able to migrate among "windows" very quickly. almost everything i post, i then copy and paste to word or wordperfect to do a spell check; if anything needs changing, i delete the original in the thread and paste from the copied and corrected word processing version. if you want to use symbols like the tilde ~ or other stuff, like £ § ® © ™ ¥...., compose in the word processor with a "standard" font like geneva using your symbols insert keys.

i'd love to try some of your mom's or other family members' super-hot chilies. what i was referring to was the color of the "sauce." in denver the pork chili is always green (no tomato or tomatilla added).

I'm from Cleveland,Ohio.Very close to Hopkins airport. I live in a little suburb called Brook Park, OH (44142) which is 10 miles south west (mostly south) of downtown Cleveland. I used to haunt Hi-Tech Hi-Fi on Mayfield Road, a local highend 2 channel stereo store until they closed. I'm looking to get to together with other audiophiles and discuss speaker/amp setups.

You can see my modest system here -
http://cgi.audioasylum.com/systems/2550.html

Feel free to email me, my linked account from A'gon is checked daily (usually). I look forward to hearing from audiophiles in the North East Ohio area!

FYI - I'm planning a pilgramage to Golden Gramophone in Fairlawn, OH, soon. I've never been there, but it has been highly recommended to me by fellow Audiogon member and Ohio resident 'Timperry.' I'm looking forward to hearing their JM Labs, Vandersteen, and Von Schweikert loudspeakers.

Cheers,
Aroc
Actually, Kelly, I grew up aroud people who grew and ate the original NM green chile, smaller than the Anaheim green that is now used everywhere. So hot I couldnt even stand to be in the house when my mother was roasting it. The real hot NM green loses a little fire when it ripens to red. The only thing hotter that I have ever tasted is a Habanero.

Since you insisted on showing off, how do you do that ~ thing over the n?
