Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

Winds Of War And Peace Wilson Audiophile Vinyl

I bought this LP in 1992 and played it on my budding audiophile system which consisted of an Adcom 555 amp, Adcoms top preamp, Vandersteen 2Ci speakers and Rega Planar 3 with a Lynn K9 mm cartridge. I remember to this day thinking how God aweful it sounded back then, bright with very muddy bass.

Thinking at the time I bought a stinkeroo, I put it away and never played it again until this morning, some 27 years later. I had forgotten I had the LP. I tried it again this morning, this time with a expensive McIntosh tube preamp and Mac 300wpc amp, Technics Sl1200g with ZU/Denton DL103 mc and GE Triton Refs speakers.

The album is dead quiet, no ticks or pops. I had the volume level up at 12 o clock and as soon as the stylus hit the grooves, thought to myself how wonderful it sounded. When the bass kicked in, I was almost knocked out of my chair! I can not believe the difference in sound and I am sad I waited this long to try it again. Back in the 90’s I thought my system was the end all but now of course know better.

I see that this record is long out of print and used ones are selling for serious money. I am so happy I stumbled upon this long forgotten record and it may just be my new go to record when showing off and evaluating my system. I believe the vinyl Gods have shined down upon me today.

@stereo5, thanks for sharing that interesting contrast between your two experiences with the same recording, 27 years apart.  I have "Winds of War and Peace" as well as a half dozen other Wilson Audio recordings, in my case all on CD, and as can be expected of recordings technically directed by Dave Wilson they all sound great.

My favorite among them, mainly because the music is among my favorites, is "Music of Chopin," featuring Chopin's magnificent Sonata No. 3 opus 58 performed by pianist Hyperion Knight.

Thanks again.  Best regards,

I love spinning records but sometimes a very well recorded tape just takes my breath away.
And this is definitely one of those tapes!
Cantando  ---  Bobo Stenson Trio (Bobo Stenson / Anders Jormin / Jon Falt)  [Jazz]
Listening to FM Stereo on the Mac tuner today. Too lazy to get out of the chair.
