Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1

Robert Plant / Alison Krauss  -  Raise The Roof

Robert Plant  -  Shaken 'N' Stirred   Bad-a$$ rock album!

The Sundays - Reading, Writing And Arithmetic. Geffen reissue 2018, originally 1990

Luna - Bewitched. Gotta Groove Records, reissue 2021, originally Elektra 1993

Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything. Rhino/Bearsville reissue/remaster 2LP Set, 1987, originally 1972

@slaw You and I have similar tastes In music Bill.

I know, I’ve even been streaming The Mountain Goats 😎

The Jimi Hendrix Experience / Are You Experienced
2020 Analogue Productions RE, orig. 1967

Aerosmith / Get Your Wings
1974 CBS

Released nearly 50 years ago, this still blows me away.

Pink Floyd  -  The Final Cut   A great way to finish up and go to bed.  Awesome!

@slaw: Speaking of Bobby Fuller, the first site I visited after moving to L.A. on June 1st 1979 was Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, to pay my respects to Bobby. For anyone else planning to do the same, you have to look under the name Robert to find his gravesite ;-) .

And speaking of Yep Rock Records, just today I returned home from Music Millennium with a copy of an album entitled United States by Ian McLagan (from The Small faces of course) & The Bump Band. Sealed LP, five bucks. I love MM.

Nice conversation tonight.

Benard Ighner  -  Little Dreamer   Most people don't know this artist.  I met him and he was kind to give me an autographed copy of a Japanese pressing.  Outstanding music and vocals.

Joh Lee Hooker  -  It Serve You Right To Suffer   Impulse AP/QRP 45rpm reissue.  The depth and the musical instruments and the vocals on this album are out of this world.  Just a jaw dropping experience, especially at volume👌

@bkeske

You might be on to something there when you say "I have to wonder if these releases were closer to what Van Gelder captured directly on tape, and cut as that."  That could very well be.

I also had to adjust my volume controls up a step as well... but in all honesty, it just made the music come thru louder.  It didn't really increase the "presence or the natural energy " that you hear when listening to live jazz in a club.

Nevertheless, I do absolutely agree with you... this is still an excellent release and I am very happy that I have it 😊  We as music lovers should feel very blessed that Tone Poet are doing these reissues, as trying to find NM originals is virtually impossible and can be cost prohibitive for many.

Best wishes,

Don

Hey, @6t5-gto ,

Be nice to hear your comparisons of the current, great to los of great artists you now have, compared to originals. ?

Merl Saunders, Jerry Garcia, John Kahn, & Bill Vitt - Live at Keystone. Fantasy 2LP reissue 2012, originally 1973

@no_regrets

With the Tone Poet, it feels more laid back and reserved.

Interesting observation. I concur, but as you say, it’s still quite good. Very good. I’ve had the CD for years, so my only comparison. I have to wonder if these releases were closer to what Van Gelder captured directly on tape, and cut as that. I did find myself wanting to crank the volume to get ‘more’ out of it, and that did help.

Regardless, a stellar release.

The Eagles - One of these Nights - Mofi One Step - I can't say I am a big Eagles guy but damn this record sounds fantastic! The vinyl is likely the most quiet I have heard. Completely dead silent and the SQ and soundstage are EXCELLENT

Bill Evans - Explorations - from the AP 45rpm box set - phenomenal

Just listened to a newly acquired John Lee Hooker lp on King last night. While I don't have a new pressing of that title to compare, I do have the Classic Records "The Healer" and a pp as well.

Frank Black & The Catholics "Dogs in the Sand"

2022/Cooking Vinyl/box

@bkeske

Thank you! Yes, I would agree... the Tone Poet releases are really something quite special. I love the packaging they come in. Great attention to detail and love the photography. Quiet vinyl, great sound and great music. I love what they are doing with these reissues!

Although, as much as I love the Tone Poet, in this case I have to give the edge to my 1978 King pressing. The King just sounds so much more dynamic, fuller and more pure sounding with much more presence. I really feel like I’m there listening to the musicians live with the King. With the Tone Poet, it feels more laid back and reserved. This comparison is with playing both pressings back to back. If I didn’t have the King, I would certainly be very happy having just the Tone Poet re-issue.

Part of the fun can be collecting multiple pressings to be used with multiple systems.... using the particular pressing that best suits each system 😊

Best wishes,

Don

John Coltrane - Blue Train
