Brian(s),
You guys may enjoy this band. They definitely have a 70's hippy vibe going on.
The Force / Various

Remember those Warner Bros. loss leader albums from the the 70’s that were advertised in the back of National Lampoon? Send $2 with the coupon and weeks later you’d receive a double album comprised from their stable of artist, along with some humorous reading.
I discovered Randy Newman and Ry Cooder via those albums. Couldn’t resist as a kid (or apparently as an adult).

Tull - War Child
Ray LaMontagne - Til the Sun Turns Black - disappointing!  The CD sounds better
Billy Cobham - Total Eclipse - Nice!
RTF - Romantic Warrior
I got the eagles - desperado mofi onestep, eagles - eagles mofi onestep, and the Miles Davis - Kind of Blue uhqr all in the mail this weekend and finally got around to spinning them. I will say that they all impress me quite a bit.
Spinning another copy of Armed Forces, this one sounds really good!  Must be one of those dang hot stampers.  I never thought of this as an "audiophile" record, even the MFSL release, but the sonics on this copy are really good.
@big_greg  - I'm going to see Elvis Costello again on 10/16. It's a brand new concert venue here in Cincinnati and I was fortunate to get pre-sale tickets, 4th row center. Can't wait! I've seen him a few times and it's always been great.
@reubent I may have more Elvis records than I do from any other artist.  Perhaps more so because he has put out so many records than him being my favorite artist (I wouldn't categorize him that way).  I've seen him live a few times too, and it's always a little different.  Last time I saw him was a few years ago and he was really rocking and it was a lot of fun.
@pkatsuleas,

Excellent set.  You’ll find a lot of common musical interest on this thread. Welcome.

Had a friend over for a listening session, mixed some vinyl and digital together. Showed off Jim's old speakers.
Knee surgery went well I’m told (have to rely on witnesses since I was unconscious). Thus begins a very long, opioid induced listening session.

Glad to hear it went well - best wishes for a speedy recovery!  Music should help.
New York Rock Ensemble - Roll Over
Herbert von Karajan 40th Anniversary -Great Symphonies. All Berlin Philharmonic. Deutsche Grammophon 8LP box set. Italian release, date unknown.

I believe I have most all these either separately or in other box sets. But, it’s been sitting in the rack being neglected, so I’ll begin taking them for a spin collectively.

First up :

Beethoven Symphony No. 3 & Coriolan" Overture, Op. 62
Schubert Symphony No. 8 In B Minor, D. 759, "Unfinished"
Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4 In A Major, Op. 90, "Italian"
Brahms Symphony No. 1 In C Minor, Op. 68

That is 3 of the 8 LP’s. Perhaps I’ll keep going after…
Kate Wolf & The Wildwood Flower – Lines On The Paper (Owl 1977)

Killed by leukemia at 44. Better than Carole King. Sweet album. Solid recording.
Count Basie & Zoot Sims – Basie & Zoot (Pablo 1976)

Going great until Basie started playing an organ. Good grief, the rig is resolving enough to hear the gawdawful sound that makes with the volume up.
The Howard Roberts Quartet / H.R. is a dirty guitar player.

Garland Jeffreys / Ghost Writer
@j_husker(du?)

thought you might get a chuckle from the following “endorsement” from the back of the Howard Roberts LP.

“I always play Howard Roberts’ album in the operating room. It keeps the morale of my staff high and I notice the patients tap their toes even though they are under ether. Then too, I can dance with the nurses while I’m waiting to find out if the operation was a success.

Irving Scalpel
Famed Brain-surgeon.”

slow and steady

I’ve been known to sing along to “up on cripple creek” while on the operating table. Or, so I’m told.
During one pre-op appointment I met my surgeon. Dr. Wu.

I requested Steely Dan in the O.R.

J_Husker,
Glad the surgery went well. I wish you all the best with recovery!
Various – Lost In The Stars - The Music Of Kurt Weill (A&M 1985)

This is a blast. It should be in every collection. Waits, Lou Reed, Sting, Rundgren, Faithful etc.
Spelling / Turning wheel
So I bought this album mainly due to the label "Sacred Bones", & the first time I heard it I was disappointed. The songs were a bit to structured & her voice a bit to nasally. I figured I must be missing something here so gave it another chance. Although the songs are more structured than I like... She has so much going on in the background that I'd ignored on first listen (must have just been a little pissed off or something), that this album has been getting steady rotation since.
