Jim, I’ll be up in a couple of weeks.  It’s Greg’s birthday around the 4th or 5th.  Maybe the 3 (or more) of us could get together and celebrate his birthday.

Buffalo Springfield "Again"  These are from the box set.  I sure am glad that I got that box.

Rickie Lee Jones  S/T  MoFi issue.  Really good!

Dire Straits  "Love Over Gold"  op issue, not bad, but I would rather have the 45 rpm issue.  Maybe some day.
+1 on the Bach trios.  I really like that album.
Joel, I never thought the op Love Over Gold” was lacking but the 45 rpm is really good.
Charles Lloyd and the Marvels featuring Lucinda Williams - Vanished Gardens
+1 Jim for "10 new songs"

Smith manually controlled groove margin and depth on his Neumann VMS-80 lathe, working with no preview signal and bypassing the lathe's margin-control computer. In doing so, he cut these sides the same way the original LP was cut by George Piros, who was Fine Recording Inc's VP and head of mastering. As with the original LP, no "sweetening" equalization or dynamic range control was used.

@boxer12, surprisingly, they don’t really wear out.  Unless you loan it to your brother in law with his bastard stylus…
Afternoon session with The Guess Who - Share the Land. 1970 RCA pressing. Haven't played this one in a long time. Great album.

Beethoven Sinfonie NR.3 Es-Dur OP.55 Eroica.

Beethoven Symphony No. 3 in E Flat Major, Op 55 Eroica
Bruno Walter
Columbia Symphony Orchestra
Columbia Masterworks 6-Eye 1959 Mono pressing.

Far superior SQ over my Dacapo pressing.
Arrived today….my Soundsmith MIMC Star.

Mounted earlier. I gotta say, I think Soundsmith carts are some of the easiest to align. Set azimuth, VTA, tracking, and took it for a quick spin before getting back to work. Initially I think I have settled on 1K loading (Peter recommends min 470-1K). Tried 470, but didn’t have the high end sparkle as 1K. 64db is what Peter recommends for gain (actually 63). I tried 60, but think 64 provides more ‘easy heft’ across the all the ranges.

It’ll take about 100 hours to fully burnish.

Very nice initial reaction, and the Hagerman has no issue handling this cart (.4mV output). Will be giving it a closer listen this evening after dinner with some LP’s I’m very familiar.
Natalie Merchant - Motherland. MOV reissue 2013 European release. Originally 2001
Thanks Tim. Fun playing around with the different options available to me now. I keep going back and forth….just what I need, something to tinker with 😁
Thank you Jim. Ya know I will. Trying to fine tune everything. Lots of variables now.
@bkeske Thanks for the report. Congrats.

Pretty good

Garland Records
Pacific Northwest Pandora’s Box

Ridiculous - but I went to High School with some of these guys and all the way through K-12 with a friend who was the keyboard player for one of the bands.

Jackson Browne
Downhill From Everywhere

Is on now and so far it sounds really good.
@laviathon

RCA LSC 1903

is that the op?  Very nice regardless.  Excellent.  Most excellent.
How is the AP version of that record?
The Oscar Peterson Trio - We Get Requests. Verve reissue 2019, originally 1964.

Oscar Peterson - piano, Ray Brown - bass, & Ed Thigpen - drums.
@spiritofradio

Yep indeed. All have sounded great. But that has been a favorite for many years.

I think this is the (a) cart combo the Hagerman needed to shine. Funny, after listening more, I thought 64db gain may be a bit too much of a good thing, although incredibly full in sound and lively, was on the ‘razors edge’, and so was going back and forth between 60 and 64 db. 60 being a lot more like the Trumpet and my hi Zephyr.

Then I remembered I had taken the dampers off my AX7’s a couple weeks ago. Put them back on, and it was like everything smoothed out, and still get the full lively presentation of the music. Wowzers. 64db is now just fine and dandy. The little things.
Finally messing w loading….

Lloyd and the Marvels..Gardens

glued to the platter, side B is a microdynamics festival…
Sir Elton: Diamonds

Great song selection, so-so overall quality. Listenable, but not amazing. Nice wine and chill record.
I don’t have the option, for loading that is. I just have a button that you press when you buy a fancy moving coil that can’t pull its own weight…

Steve says the button on this device detracts from the experience.  He might be right.  Midrange was more “liquid” with a less expensive MM cart - all things being equal.  But the sublimity of the Hana MC is alluring.  Maybe the next phase for me is into moving iron.  Then I don’t have to press the button….
