Ormandy conducts Rachmaninoff - Symphonic Dances, Op. 45 & Casella - Paganiniana. The Philadelphia Orchestra. Columbia Odyssey, date unknown, 1970’s reissue. Originally 1960.
Forgot how good the SQ is on this. Really dynamic. |
Thanks grey9hound for the "Crooked Colours -"Vera" suggestion. I will check them out.

Alice In Chains, Unplugged One of the best rock albums ever recorded. |

Marcin Wasilewski Trio Live ECM 2018
Try this if you think you don’t like your Jazz too angular or difficult to listen to. This moves. SQ is fantastic. Guys are I my room. |
Marcin Wasilewski Trio Live ECM 2018 👍 Another GREAT Album in the Electronic category IMO is Kruder & Dorfmeister - "The K&D Sessions" It is worth checking out. |

Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves. This might be what would happen if you got Iggy Pop and Kraftwerk together. |
I have that one. A cross between Iggy Pop and Kraftwerk is an excellent way to describe Chrome. |
Rickey Skaggs-Highways & Heartaches Side 2 SQ 4.3 The Knack-Get The Knack Side 2 SQ 4.5 Barbra Streisand-The Broadway Album Side 2 SQ 4.4 Rare Silk-New Weave Side 2 SQ 4.4 Itzhak Perlman-Mendelssohn Concerto(Angel DS-38150} Side 1 SQ 4.5 Kate Wolf-Safe At Anchor Side 1 SQ 4.5 Hall & Oates-Fast Times Behind Side 2 SQ 4.3 Roberta Flack-Killing Me Softly-Side 1 SQ 4.4 Cat Stevens-Teaser And The Firecat Side 2 SQ 4.6 Queen-Greatest Hits Side 1 SQ 4,4
All recordings were played last night. Played some favorites(that were not boxed). Safe At Anchor might be my favorite "folk" album. along with Get The Knack fav "power pop" recording. My wife Loves Teaser And The Firecat as much as any of the Eagles/Hall & Oates or Duran Duran recordings. The Perlman version of the Mendelssohn Concerto is a favorite for both of us. After all is and done a great night of music. With my system down for about 6 weeks I will have more time to delve into my CD collection playing on a Panasonic RX-DS 750 or SA-PM03, which both sound OK. Will keep up with this blog and will probably add a comment or two.

Was just notified that my Soundsmith lo MIMC Zephyr finally came in and shipped. Yea! Looking forward to mounting that cart and see how it performs vs my hi output Zephyr. |

@tomic601
Thanks Jim. Glad I was patient and waited, a very good deal on that cart new, about $1,250 vs $2,000.
I’m very interested to see how the Hagerman Trumpet and it ‘dance’ together. It will mean the Trumpet fet stage will be in use with it. So, I’m very curious…..And a ruby cantilever to boot.
Parker, who built it, said he is sure I will like it. He feels their Zephyr line is an absolute steal for the money. |
Ruby Cantilever Tuesday who could hang a FET on you ?
Neil Young - Harvest ( 180g reissued out of the archives.. ) amended as pressing quality sucks…. |
Rickie Lee Jones Eponymous
|
I was in error, the MIMC has a sapphire cantilever, not ruby. Should be a good math for the SOTA, ha! |
I picked up a couple more Zupreme headshells and mounted my Nagaoka MP-500 on one tonight and put it on the SL-1200. These things are a very inexpensive and noticeable upgrade over a stock or (most) aftermarket headshell. |
In the custom of a great contributor @dayglow I shall be playing sides…
F Mac - Tusk |
F Mac - Tusk Excellent choice. Putting that on deck (cassette). Wait…. How did I do that? |
May I say, tonight Rickie sounds better than she ever has to me and I think it might be the tubes. |
Genesis - Seconds Out - Abbey Road reissue - very good |
@big_greg
Those look pretty nice, and an azimuth adjustment to boot. Looks very similar to the stock Jelco 850 headshell that came with my arm.
I bought a wood Soundsmith headshell about a month and a half ago in anticipation of the MIMC Star, but that looks like it would have been a great choice as well. |
Brian, I think that headshell is sold under other brand names. |
Gruntruck - Push. I think this band would have been a lot more popular if not for the unfortunate choice of a band name. |
|
:-) Tubes and Rickie Lee, ya man. I caught her at The Triple Door w concert Grand. Awesome show. |
…and, continuing our musical adventure travel through 1979…
Led Zeppelin In Through The Out Door
|
R Lee J - Pirates ( a masterpiece ) worthy of a reversion to both sides…. |
James - yes, I remember my guitar slinging roommate ( Gibson S-1 ) buying that at the school book store…..
up next but I will need to stream it….. |
|
Sadly no , bin diving rescue… VG plus |
In through the out door is to Zeppelin what Tusk is to Fleetwood Mac & what Pet sounds is to The Beach Boys ———
|
Fool in the Rain is my favorite song of theirs. Bonzo’s bounce man. |
|
Santana Marathon (1979 and sounds like it and I mean that in the best possible way)
You can hear the bell bottoms. |
