@slaw: Steve, Mary’s out on tour now, so if at all possible try and see/hear her live. She’s real good on stage, particularly as an acoustic guitarist (I saw her at a great club in Portland on her last tour, right down the street from Music Millennium record store), and tickets to her shows are a steal! And if you’re missing any of her catalog, she of course travels with a merchandise table and product (both LP and CD), which I believe she will autograph if you wish.

@loomisjohnson

the hitmen were pretty great--their first record especially. my hats off to your knowledge of obscure 80s guitar bands noone else remembers

Your taste in music is also interesting and when I think I knew about most of the new wave/power pop 80’s bands you post up some I’ve never heard of…so off I go to stream! I enjoy that, thanks!
I agree on “Aim For The Feet”…fun, catchy Hitmen music.
The Tourists…Dave Stewart, Annie Lennox before The Eurythmics.

@jeffstrick @bkeske just listened to lankum, which i’d never hear before--really dark, but hypnotizing stuff.

@bslon the hitmen were pretty great--their first record especially. my hats off to your knowledge of obscure 80s guitar bands noone else remembers

my picks for the day:

cory hanson, pale horse rider--brooding nick drake-ish type with good songs and really beautiful, keening voice

polvo, today’s active lifestyle--i knew i was a grownup when this started to sound melodic and structured instead of chaotic and dissonant

The Animals, Retrospective. Very well mastered. Sounds great on my tube IA.

Retrospective[2 LP]

Pat Martino-Consciousness Side B SQ Audiophile

Concord Jazz All Stars-North Sea Jazz Festival(CJ-182) Side 2 SQ Audiophile

Nothing had below average SQ tonight. Was disappointed with the Peter Gunn SQ since its an original? mint pressing. Pat Martino takes the SQ crown tonight. If anyone appreciates high level musicianship and Audiophile SQ this recording might interest you. A very strong BS&T album released on ABC records with half speed mastering by Stan Ricker. Yes, Krokus had very solid SQ for a "live" pop/metal recording.

Geminiani - Anthony Pleeth, Richard Webb, Christopher Hogwood – Six Cello Sonatas, Op. 5 (L'Oiseau-Lyre 1976)

Clark Kessinger – Old-Time Music With Fiddle & Guitar (Rounder 1972)

Uncertain nostalgia. Magic.

@noromance Cool it was played at the show, it probably sounds really nice played on your system too. I need to get more of his music, really like this one. I remember you saying you met the man, also cool! He’s a prolific musician for sure.

@bslon +1 Flat Baroque. I got Jeff Catalano to to play it in the Acora room in AXPONA a few years ago.

Brian, streaming Bartók. Romanian Folk Dances. The string orchestral version, and the piano and violin version. Both sublime. On a similar note, you might enjoy this. https://youtu.be/IPYHy8k9Z34

Brian, Bartók, to me, is amazing, and one of my favorite composers. Have a lot of recordings of his works, and keep adding more. He goes from traditional and folk influenced to very modern, and sometimes all mixed together in a very unique way.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
